Ok i have a question for you nursing mama's. I nursed my 7 year old until she was 2 1/2. I have not nursed her for 4 1/2 years but I am still producing milk. Is this normal?????
really? ive never heard of that. im interested to find out more about this.
i cant imagine that its harmful, but i would think maybe its painful at times?
All I have to say is I am so happy to hear I am not the only one who experiences this. :)
Aftern pregnancy or miscarriage, you can lactate for up to 6 1/2 years as long as you are still within child bearing years. If you have a period and therefore surges in hormones, you can lactate; especially if you are sexually active. Women who take part in above the waist foreplay can lactate even longer. The truth is, it really is not much milk. Just enough to leak, squirt or come out if you squeeze. The truth is, if you were to pump or have someone suck. there really is not much there. Now you do not want to pump or suck because that would stimulate more milk. Women who participate in nipple/breast forplay actually can lactate for YEARS. Totally normal so do not worry.
That didn't happen to me, but I suppose it can happen. Is anything else happening, like a weird physical symptom, or are you having huge amounts of stress? Regardless, I think you may want to visit a doctor or health care specialist of some sort. I'd find it irritating to still be lactating for that long. I do think that your body is telling you something and you need to get it checked out.

Um, no. Not normal. But, if you are still producing milk, you must be doing something with it. (??) If you are still pumping you'll continue to make milk. It's a cycle. So if you are, stop. Or, I guess you could utilize this as a blessing and sell to a milk bank! :-)
But seriously, if you stop nursing and are not pumping - but just "being", it should dry up. If for no other reason than due to the hassle, you should probably be checked out.
