Happy Friday Ladies =o ) I am due in February and will be going to register in a few weeks, so I wondered if anyone had any suggestions on a good breast pump. If it is available at Babies R' Us or Target, that would be great, bc that is where I'm registered. Thanks Mommies!!
I would definitely go with the Medela Pump In Style Advanced. I was told that this is one item that you should buy top of the line and people were right! I used mine 5 years ago with my twins and am using it now with my newborn. I love it and have never had any issues with it.
Medela Pump in Style (AND register for the Soft Fit shields and/or the larger shields while you're at it-- they're also available at Target and make a difference!)

MEDELA, I bought mine in 2004 for my 1st child and used it 13 months, I then used it in 2009 for my sencond, also for 13 months. Now, my SIL is using it (with new tubing, shields, etc.) and its still going.
WIth both my kids I mainly pumped, so I was using it up to 7 times a day and it performed very well.
Congratulations on your baby and good luck!

I nursed for a year but my son had breast milk to drink until 15 months thanks to me pumping and freezing the milk. I had to go back to work when he was 5 months old. I had the Medela Pump In Style Advanced and it worked well. I would definitely recommend it and will use it again with #2 when the time comes.

Don't go cheap. You want a workhorse. Go with Ameda or Medela. I've heard about Lanisoh and Tommee Tippee, but not had any experience with them. My Pump In Style Advance worked hard for me for a year and the only thing I'd change is the bag. I'd go for the Metro bag vs the backpack. You can also see if the LC will sell you the motor without the bag. Your insurance may also help you pay for one. It is worth EVERY PENNY to have a GOOD pump.

I also was really happy with my Medela Pump in Style. If no one buys it for you, do not get it from Babies R Us. It's way too expensive there. Google Hackley Healthcare, and order it from there. That's the best price I could find on a new one.

Get a GOOD one. i went through a number of inexpensive ones with my first and bought a medela Pump In Style with my second, then used it for my third and gave it to a friend afterward. They don't die, they're well worth the money. They're fast, easy, NOT PAINFUL..... Highly recommend a Medela - Pump In Style - or better. Congratulations!!

Congrats on the pregnancy!! Medela Pump in Style (available at BRU and Target) - saved my life and made it possible for me to still give my baby breastmilk when I returned to work!!! I have also heard good things about Hygeia. (http://www.hygeiababy.com/index.php)

I used the Medela Pump in Style with my son in 2003/04 and the Ameda (sorry can't remember the style) with my daughter in 2010. At first, I didn't think I'd like the Ameda as much as the Medela (probably b/c I loved it), but in the end, I liked it better because I could adjust the pressure and speed separately. The Ameda also is smaller and I could store it in my desk at work or toss it into a small bag.
Whichever route you go, don't go cheap if you really plan to breast feed for a while. I would have never made it without mine.

I'm going to add on and say GO Medela!! They are awesome and last a while. I know you can get those at Babies R Us.
If no one gets it for you (because they and the accessories can be a bit pricey) you can always find them on craigslist. Just make sure you buy a new kit that has the tubing and other accessories new. Unless the person is a complete idiot, there is no way for the milk to get up inside the pump area and you can check it before you buy it to make sure that there isn't any problems with it. Just a suggestion!
Also- you can order most accessories online for smiliar prices if your BRU or Target doesn't have what you need!
get a car adaptor and/or a battery pack if you are a working mom or one who is on the move all the time! They are crucial!
If you are going to freeze your milk- personally I like the ones in the purple boxes that have the zip lock top. The Medela ones leaked a lot for me!
Good luck! Pumping is a great way to keep things going!

I have the Medela Pump in Style. Just so you know, Babies R Us offers workshops on breastfeeding and all the various products. The Pump in Stlye is great. I worked full time while breastfeeding my twins, and I just pulled it out recently since I have a three month old at home. It's still working great and I just went back to work again. I love it.

Don't go cheap!! Get a medela
For my first I bought the playtex one for a little over $100 and it lasted 4 months, and I was still home with her at the time, so I wasn't pumping that much.
Now I don't have a pump because I stay home with lo all the time :) I did get the medela hand pump now that we are about to start cereal and purees I want to put some B milk in there for her. :)

I have the Medela double pump. Love it.. I nursed my first child to 16 months with working full time. and now my second child I mostly express the milk and bottle her.. she is 16 weeks today.
Check with your insurance, they might reimburse your charges or some of them. Mine did, I think we paid $25 out of pocket. but you might have to watch "when" you buy it..
Congratulations.

I also got my Medala inStyle Advanced from Craigslist. They are SO expensive in the stores. If you don't get one as a gift, I would definitely check Craigslist out! I paid $75 for mine and got accessories with it and the bag, etc. It works great and I've taken it everywhere, even camping at the beach. Happy shopping and congratulations!

I used the Medela Pump in Style Advanced. My mom bought it brand new for $350 for me when I was pregnant with my first in 2005 and I used it recently with my now 2 year old and it ran just as well for the second baby as it did the first.
Since we are done having babies, I just sold it on Craigslist for $60. I probably undersold it but I figured I got a little cash out of it and a smart momma got a great deal. So check with craigslist and test it before you buy it and you should be able to get a good affordable Medela.
