I have a Medela Freestyle that I love - I pump 1-3 times a day (depending on if I'm at work or not). I have nothing but good things to say about it. i love the hands-free use with the Freestyle and the small size of the pump itself. The battery runs great (unlike with the Pump in Style that has less suction power in battery mode). Medela customer service is great too.

Medula Pump in Style is always a top pick of mothers. They also just came out with a backpack style. If money is tight, you can get one off of Craigs List, often unused or barely used. Good luck!

I completely agree that you have to get a Medela pump. I think the model depends on your pumping needs. If you are looking for an occasional pump you will do fine with the Harmony, which is about 50 bucks. I love mine and it did a great job if I just needed one bottle if I was going out. I also had to pump exclusively for 2 months with my first child and I couldn't have done it without my Medela Symphony, which I rented from the hospital. I also had a Pump in Style, but it didn't work as fast as the Symphony (which is generally a rental model I think) and didn't hold up as well, it seemed to lose power over time. But other posters seem to have had better luck with theirs.

Don't buy a cheap one. Also get one that can do both breasts at the same time, this will help you to get more out at the same time. It's sometimes hard to get the second breast to let down after pumping the first. I would recommend the Medela Pump in style

I have a Medela Pump In Style and I love it. I don't have experience with any others, so I can't compare it to anything, but it works well. I bought the hands free bra so I can do some work while I'm pumping at work. I found that you can get them much cheaper if you go to websites for medical devices. I can't remember which site I ended up using (sorry!!) but I googled pumps and found several sites that were less expensive. I think I got mine for around $50 less than Babies R Us/Target/etc. If I think of the site I'll post it.

Good luck!!

I love my Medela Pump. Check out www.mommygear.com. They have the LOWEST prices I have found, free shipping on most pump purchases, and great advice.

Medela is hands down the best breast pump manufacturer - recommended by hospitals, moms and lactation consultants. You will want a double electric pump because it is easiest and pumps faster than doing it one breast at a time. The newest Medela model is the Freestyle, which essentially lets you pump while you do other things. They are expensive though. Avoid getting a used pump - as bacteria from the old pump and from another mom can affect the breast milk you pump out. Some people may recommend renting pumps, but if you plan to breastfeed and pump longer than a few months, the cost really breaks even, so you might as well get your own.

Medela Pump in Style Advanced. Best one yet. Around $300 or so, at least it was when I had my daughter 3 years ago. Comfortable to use, easy to use, clean, very quiet, compact & portable. Comes in two different bag styles too, both very classy. :) Hope that helps.

Medela brand pumps are excellent quality and easy to use! I have the pump in style (which I bought 3 years ago.) I was a full time pumper for months and months. It worked very well and was easy to travel with. It comes with a battery pack so I could pump in the car (when somebody else was driving) and other random places. You don't always have to be plugged in. It also has a cooler pack that comes with it to store your milk. Good luck!

*Just remember that you get what you pay for and if you go cheap on the pump, you'll regret it soon enough. Pumping/nursing is hard enough as it is and so you want a machine that makes it easier for you, not more difficult!

Buy a Medela. They are expensive but worth it. My Pump In Style lasted through a singleton and twins! It does both breasts and has a cooler for the milk if you are away from home.

I purchased the Advent Purely Yours. All Medela pumps are great. I have heard that Lansolin is also good, and less expensive then Advent or Medela. Avoid EvenFlo, Amedia, Playtex, and The First Years. From the ratings and what I have heard on other sites, those are all known to shread your nipples.

If you are planning on going back to work and pumping there, I would greatly reccomend to get a dual electric. If you are staying at home, a manual or single electric would be fine.

I must agree, after owning a few different brands, that Medela is the way to go! The type of pump you buy will depend on how you intend to use it. I did not have to pump too often and so I found the Medela Harmony hand pump worked the best for me. I was able to control the suction and the duration of the pull and I was very successful using this pump. You'd think that using a manuel pump would be time consuming and exhausting, but it is not. I can pump pretty quicky, my hands have never tired, and its totally quiet. Best part is I bought this pump for $35!

If you are going to spend $300 on a pump as some have suggested, I would get a used Medela Lactina Select on ebay. It is a hospital grade pump designed for more than one user (fully sanitary as you use your own tubing kit). I bought one used on ebay for $400 seven years ago, used it for 2 children and am now getting ready to sell it for $300 so they really hold their value. There are lots listed, many with free shipping and extras included. This pump is the best - hands down. You won't be disappointed - and it will cost less than renting one or buying a lesser grade pump in the long run with the resale option. Hope that helps!

Get a dual breastpump. Hands free if you plan to use it frequently and make sure its BPA free. I love my Ameda Purely Yours but Medela is also a great brand but a little pricier.
