I am needing a reduction and possibly a lift and have been told that insurance will cover this. I've been researching the procedure and surgeons for awhile now. I tried to make an appt. with a couple of different surgeons and neither of them are performing reductions when covered by insurance anymore. Is this a trend? Have any of you mamas had a reduction covered by insurance? What were the requirements? Who was your surgeon? Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Call you insurance company and explain to them what you are running in to and they should be able to help you find a surgeon. Tell them what you are running in to.
I had one in 2001 with Dr. Antonetti. I had no problems. I paid about $700 out of pocket.
We had just moved into our home the summer before. While I was home recovering (just a short time), I had a chance to visit with a next door neighbor. As we were talking, I learned that a few years before she also had had a breast reduction and HER doctor was Dr. Antonetti!

I was in the medical field for 15 yrs before my son was born. I worked for a family practice dr and we saw this frequently. You usually need a x-ray of your cervical spine, possible MRI of the c-spine and a letter fm your family dr to the changes in your shoulders and neck. Then you can take that to a plastic surgeon who is on your ins plan and as long as they are on your plan and know they'll get paid they should be more than willing to speak w/you. Call your ins first; ask them what the criteria are and the steps you need to take. Keep a headache, backache, shoulderache log to show how frequently you are uncomfortable. Present this to your dr at your apt and explain to him what you're expectations are. I know it seems like alot of work but it's only for just a bit then think of how much better you'll feel when it's all over and how much happier you'll be! I am nursing my third child and will get a lift and reduction when I'm all done.
My mom had a reduction and lift almost 4 years ago, and insurance covered it (she of course had her deductible). I THINK her doctor was Dr. Coors in Fort Worth, out of Plaza medical center. I could find out the name for sure if you wanted it, but I do know it was out of Plaza. He specializes in breasts (reductions, implants, I think some reconstruction too...). Anyway, my mom has been very pleased with her results.

I had a reduction about 4 yrs ago and it was covered by insurance. I didn't seem to have a problem finding a surgeon. I actually interviewed with two. I can't remember the name of one of them (that I did not go with) but the one who did mine was a Dr. Adams he was in Dallas. He did an okay job, but not as great as I would of liked. I had mine done Dec 07 by Dr James Ward at USMD in Arlington, Insurance covered all but deductible. I think the reason was that my family doctor and my chiropractor wrote letters along with the surgeon to get it approved. Dr Ward also uses glue not stitches to minimize scarring and my recovery was a breeze because of his methods. I was taking a shower on the second day washing my own hair. Far from the hooror stories I read about this procedure. Good Luck I only wished I had done it years ago. I went from a G to a C and I feel great.
