I need some suggestions on how to get my milk back. I couldn't breastfeed my son for 2 weeks because I was at a work training event and was unable to get a hand pump to work for me. I have been trying fenugreek with limited success and just cannot find the time to pump every 3 hours. Does anyone have any other suggestions to get my milk back? Any advice is welcome!

What can I do next?

Hi J.-
Breastfeeding is dictated by supply and demand. Unfortunately, you are going to have to find time to pump if you want to restore your milk supply. Your doctor can help you out with medication to ramp up your production. Even still, if you are not "using" the milk your supply will dwindle and eventually dry up. Try investing in a good quality electric pump, that will help your supply and greatly reduce pumping time. If you employer isn't allowing you the time to pump they are breaking the law. I am also an interior designer that worked with a new baby and I pumped every 4 hours at work. Good luck!

Hi, J.
First of all, don't be nervious! It's very important. When I was in the same situation I tried to drink hot tea plus sugar plus milk. It was very helpfull!!! I did it every three hours right before breastfeeding. And don't stop trying if you really want to get your milk back.
Good luck,
N.

Other than additional pumping (supply/demand principle), I know some mothers have benefited from using Metoclopramide (generic)/Reglan(trade name). It is an anti-nausea drug commonly used during pregnancy for mild morning sickness, so it is safe for baby. Ask your doctor about it---a former classmate of mine used it for her breastfeeding troubles, after fenugreek and other methods, and it worked well for her.
Best wishes!

Hi, The same thing happened to me. My doctor gave me some pills that help bring your milk back but you have to continue pumping too. I will get the name of the pills for you in a minute, I still have the empty bottle.
