So What Happened?

Thank yo to everyone who responded about BF. I thought it was okay but just needed the reassurance. Thanks for the encouragement about STILL BF 16 month old. Sometimes I get the questioning from my family but I know it is right for us. Also, thanks for the info about dental work while pregnant. I have to have more stuff done and was concerned about getting pregnant. All you wonderful ladies out there are terrific!! I love having this sight to get help from and to share advice!!

You're fine to breastfeed. I had dental x-rays done when I was pregnant! I had to have a root canal and a crown put on all while I was pregnant and my Dr. said that was fine. From what I heard- the amount of radiation you're exposed to from those type of x-rays is the same amount you get from being outside in the sun. Just as a precaution they did put 3 of the metal capes on me when they took the x-rays because they knew I was nervous about it!

as far as I know it's fine, you just don't want any xrays while pregnant

Yes, but they should have put a shield over you anyway. It should be standard procedure. If in doubt, do a pump and dump for a feeding or two. And be sure to ask the hygienist or dentist - although I know answers like this, I always bring it up, just in case there is new info they have that I don't, and to ensure that all precautions are taken.

And congrats on the extended breast feeding. I bf'd for a long time, too, with both kids and it's so worth it! DD is still attached although she hasn't nursed in over 6 months. The other day she said, "Mommy, your nonnies (our code word) are so precious....And they match!" Cracked me up. She likes to still cuddle them at bedtime while I'm reading.

Hello D.,

It is completely safe to breastfeed after getting a FMX (full mouth x-rays). I was a dental assistant for 7 years. To be honest there is very little if any radiation exposure to you if your dental office followed all the appropriate safety precautions. Like wearing a X-ray vest. You can go ahead and breastfeed your baby.
