Breastfeeding and Drinking Probiotics

During a different life, pre-babies, i used to drink 'green vibrance' a probiotic supplemental drink -- and it gave me extra energy and improved my digestion. I stopped drinking it when i got pregnant with my first baby and didnt start drinking until i was finished breastfeeding cause i was afraid of any negative effects. A friend of mine recently mentioned that she also drank the same suplement and done so with all three of her pregnancies and while breastfeeding.

I'd like to hear from other mothers about whether i should start back on drinking the supplement or has anyone have any experience with this situation.

Appreciate all the input =)

So What Happened?

Thank u for all the input -- i think i will start back on drinking probiotic and see how my baby responds - she's been having reflux lately.

I am not familiar with the particular drink, but I took probiotics while nursing my DS for a year -- they are great for you and the baby and help to keep yeast content down (so there is less of a chance of thrush). It was great for us. I took the pill form. Even now, if my kids have to be on antibiotics, I open up the capsule and put it in their drink cups (my bottle says that it is AOK for infants and kids). Thankfully, it has been a long while since we had to have antibiotics (*knock on wood*) -- a year :)

Best wishes!

I don't know that drink, but as long as it's all-natural and simply a "probiotic" drink -it should be fine for pregnancy or breastfeeding. If it has certain energy-inducing herbs like Ma Huang (sp?) or Guarana -you should do some research -but just probiotics would be good for you, pregnant or not. There are also other herbs that can be dangerous for pregnant women and have been used in older times to induce miscarriage and that sort of thing (black cohosh comes to mind). Just look at all the ingredients and research any you don't know about.

I am not familiar with the drink, but I do know that as far as digestion goes, you can take a probiotic in powder or pill form and breastfeed. It is actually great for you and your baby!

I drink Keifer sometimes while prego and while breastfeeding. It did not seem to bother the baby.

I'm not familiar with the product but it sounds healthy and your body has responded in a healthy way to it. Why do you think it might have a negative affect on your baby? Natural products that are good for you should be alright for your nursing baby. I'd check with a naturalist to be sure since you're uncertain.

Probitotics are the best thing you can offer your child. Just make sure there are no artificial ingredients or sweeteners.
