my son is almost a year, I have strictly breastfed. I am now 10 pounds lighter than before I got pregnant. I am 5 7" and was 118 before i got pregnant, and now im 108. I feel too skinny. I have read about women whose thyroid go awry after they have a baby...does anyone else experience this??? Should i be worried?

What can I do next?

Yes! Enjoy it. I didnt breast feed with my first and had a hard time loosing the baby fat. But breastfead with the second and dropped the weight just like that. Breast feeding is healthier for the baby and helps the mom shed that unwanted baby weight.

I always get really skinny when I breastfeed. It happened with my four-year-old, and it's happening now with my nine-month-old. It takes a lot of calories to feed another human being. I wouldn't worry. Enjoy it while it lasts, and don't feel too bad if you want to indulge in an extra cookie now and then. Believe me, the weight came back soon enough after I weaned.

A baby can nurse 60 lbs off your body in a year. Go eat everything you would deny yourself. Also he should be on solid foods by now. Start introducing him to cereal, fruit and vegetables at the table. Put him in a high chair and sit beside him at the table. Eat together (you'll have to help him learn how to eat) and talk to him so he learns language skills and to be sociable.

I lost 15 more pounds than I had put on, but after I stopped BF'ing I gained 10 back. I wouldn't worry about it. BF'ing consumes more calories than being pregnant. Talk with your dr... the thyroid thing is a factor after pregnancy, but it's usually the issue that you feel tired and run down. But it's a simple test, so talk to your dr.

I breastfed for just over a year, and lost the 46 pounds I put on while pregnant plus a few more. And then I stopped breastfeeding and the weight started creeping back on. Eat a few more healthy calories (or drink an Ensure) if it bothers you. I wouldn't be concerned unless you are planning to breastfeed for many more months and your weight continues to drop.

With my first pregnancy, I got almost back to pre-pregnancy weight before dropping my son's first feeding, sometime after he turned one. With each feeding we dropped, I gained 5 pounds. Ugh! I wanted to breastfeed my second child through adulthood for the weight loss! (o: You burn a ton of calories when you breastfeed - just make sure you eat a healthy, well-balanced diet that keeps you satiated. Maybe you can add things like Carnation drink mixes to add calories to your diet without unwanted junk foods.

ALWAYS feel free to ask your Dr to check your metabolic Panel and Thyroid levels!! It's a simple blood draw and you get a lot of information.

As for the being 1lbs under your original weight... start adding more calories in the forms of healthy carbs and foods (whole grains, potatoes, non lean meats, cheeses, eggs, etc) because breastfeeding definitely increases your metabolism.

That happened to me and was such a surprise. I'm 5'8" and got down to 115. I just tried to eat frequently and loaded up on the good fats. After I weaned my kids, the weight gradually came back to normal. Now, I have to work hard to maintain my weight. Good luck.

I don't know about the thyroid question, I have not heard of that. By the time I weaned my second boy I was 4 pants sizes smaller than before I got pregnant. I think those pants started to get a little bit snug again within a few months of weaning him and I gained a few pounds back (then got pregnant again). It sounds like you could try eating a bit more in the meantime, even just an extra glass of milk, because it takes up to 500 extra calories or so when breastfeeding exclusively. You might bounce back up to your normal weight when you wean pretty naturally, so I wouldn't alter my eating too much if I were you or you might over shoot it. Hope you are feeling healthy!

Start eating nutrient-dense foods. >> www.westonaprice.org

Never, never, never let a doctor take your thyroid out as a FIRST resort. If it ever gets to that point, send me a private message, and I'll talk you through it. Step #1: Avoid Aspertame (Nutrasweet) like the PLAGUE!!!!
