YES! SO SLEEPY!! It will only last for a little while. If possible, take advantage of those quick ZZZZZ's. It will give you a much needed boost of energy. (Just don't drop the baby)! :)
I was just wondering, does breastfeeding make you sleepy? I was noticing I get very sleepy when I nurse my daughter.

Yes, when you nurse your baby, your body releases the same chemicals that are release during sex. Weird huh. I guess it encourages bonding with the baby...
Actually, when you breastfeed it produces a relaxing hormone, which in turn helps your milk production. I asked my dr. about it and did a little research -- very interesting how we were made that way! I know I get very sleepy and almost can't keep my eyes open while I'm nursing.
Absolutely BF can make you sleepy. Try keeping a glass of water nearby to sip on during your nursing sessions, or sometimes I just lie my head back, and close my eyes, while my daughter nurses.
I always got sleepy if I breast feed at home when nothing else was going on because it makes you relax, but in public I was always so busy with other things or so worried about being covered that I was never sleepy then. But I can remember always taking a nap with my daughter after church on Sunday after I breast feed her! And we would sleep for like 2 hours too!:) It's great!
To put it simply, yes breastfeeding can make you sleepy. There is a natural release of a hormone when breastfeeding that makes you sleepy. It also takes a lot of energy to breastfeed. You can really burn the calories while producing breast milk. Drink lots of water and keep it up. It is great for you and baby.
I know that when you breastfeed, you use like 500 calories, so it deplites your nutrients. So like the other lady said, eat a snack. I used to keep peanut butter crackers by me.
YES! It always made me tired.
I heard it has something to do with your blood sugar levels, but I am no expert here. I used to have that happen too. I found drinking a glass of water before or during nursing helped along with eating something with protein, like cottage cheese or peanut butter. Good luck!
Yes, I suggest eating small snacks full of protien like peanuts and drink a glass of water before or during nursing.
When you get sleepy your body is talking to you listen to it- it's telling you- I need a break.
Good Luck,
L.
Yes, breastfeeding does make you relaxed and sleepy. It's well documented. Your milk production is best when you are relaxed, and the hormones released by breastfeeding help you do just that!

Hi F.,
Getting sleepy is really normal.
Take care,

I know that it made me sleepy. I know that is soothing and for me just watching my daughter nurse and fall asleep made me want t curl up and fall asleep.
