I am planning to buy a new breastpump soon. I know that I will buy a Medela but cannot decide if I want the Original Pump in Style or the New Pump in Style Advanced. Does anyone have recommendations? Has anyone used both of these? Is the Advanced worth the extra money?
I have the original would have liked the advanced, the 2phase expression and auto let down is worth it ... try the nesting place in grapevine
I have the original Pump in Style and I love it, I think it works really well.
I have the advanced, and really love it. Infact I pumped while driving to work this morning. I bought mine on ebay. I paid signifigantly less than what it retails for. I also saw a classified ad on my community website of someone selling theres. Shoot me a message if you would like her email address.

Fancy running in to ya on mamasource! :) Well, I'm not even sure what the cost difference is anymore, but two years ago I decided to go with the original (I bought it at Harris Methodist SW from the "lactation center", and the consultant there told me at that point in time the only real difference was the bag...the Advanced looked a little more stylish b/c of its "backpack design".) So, to me it wasn't worth it to spend $35 more for the bag...but I don't know how the products have changed, or if there are different features now, etc. I really appreciated my "original"...it wasn't so cumbersome that I couldn't set it up and let it do its thing, while I multitasked (especially since I got a "hands-free" necklace). Often I was able to get it going while I ate my lunch and checked email! Ha haa! Good luck with your decision! I think either way you go, you'll be pleased b/c they're good pumps. :)
I understand the difference to be the let-down feature on the advanced one. It provides the rapid suction at the beginning of pumping to simulate how a baby nurses, and after a couple of minutes it goes into the normal mode for when the milk is flowing. I had the advanced and loved it...my milk came super fast and made pumping quick to do.
I went for the Advanced, and also loved it. I don't know if it is better than the original, but whatever you buy - if you open it, you cannot return it. So I decided to go for it. Never had any problems, worked so easily and quickly. I was very happy with the purchase.
I am using both the Original and Advanced "Limited Edition"(one at work and the other at home)! In my opinion, the Original has quite a bit more "suction" at the max level compared to the Advanced. Because of this, it seems to me that the Original is a little more efficient. I've heard not everyone uses their pump at "max level" anyway, so this may not be a factor for you. My let-down is very, very quick, so I'm never coasting on the initial phase of the Advanced for more than ten seconds or so. Honestly, you can't go wrong with either. I do love that the motor in the Advanced model is in its own separate carrying container with handle (don't know if the regular Advanced package has this); this makes it very easy for me to tote it around the house since I don't have to carry an entire backpack around. Honestly, if you don't think the removable motor unit will be an issue for you, then I'd just get the Original if the price difference is a concern of yours.
I have only used the advanced but I love it. I think the letdown mode really helps. I did buy mine on EBAY brand new in box for the same price I would have paid for the original in the store.
