Hi My name is A.. I am trying get more info from people who have had a breech baby. I am 36 weeks and my baby is still head up. I go in Friday (13th) for the doctor to turn the baby and she is supposed to be like the BEST at turning them but I would still like to hear from people who have had to do this. I've heard that it hurts a lot and that the baby can still turn back so I'm just trying to see how often that happens. She gave me a couple exercises to do to try and get the baby to turn before then but if anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it!
Thanks
A.

So What Happened?

Hey All!
Thanks for all of your advice and prayers. We had our baby last Friday (the 3rd) and she stayed head down and I had a wonderful easy delivery! She was 7 lbs 9 oz and 19 1/2 inches. She's been wonderful... very laid back and lets us get lots of sleep at night! Thanks again!

My last child was delivered breech. She was head down and all of a sudden she came out of the birthing canal and flipped. Emergency C-section was called but she wasn't going to wait. I ended up delivering her vaginally. I recommend that if when the time comes you have the C-section. My daughter has no problems now but when she was delivered the cord was around her neck which I was told is common in breech babies and she had to do PT because of her hips. Don't want to scare you but its better for you to know going into it all. Good luck.

Find a chiropractor that does the Webster technique. Avoid the pain of having the doctor turn the baby.
Also put cold packs on the upper part of your stomach and a heating pad or hot pack on the bottom. The baby will be drawn toward the heat. do this for 20 min. at a time.
I would put off the Friday the 13th appointment and try some of the info you've been given first. The Webster chiropractic thing worked beautifully for me. After my appointment the baby flipped in my sleep that night.
Good luck and remember you don't have to do everything your doctor says.

Another thing that can help is getting adjusted by a chiropractor who does the Webster Technique. This allows for the optimal amount of motion in your sacrum, so the baby can turn if there is enough room. I have seen a lot of success with this. To find a certified chiropractor, you can go to:

www.icpa4kids.org

ETA - I see someone else also posted about Webster. It is a very gentle technique. I do it on all of my pregnant patients to releieve tension in the pelvic area. If you have any specific questions, please feel free to email me at ____@____.com

My 2nd son was breech and we had him turned and it worked great. It is painful, but honestly it lasts less than a minute and if you want them to stop you just tell them to stop! I decided I was going to count to 60 and if he hadn't turned I was going to quit--he turned at 48 and I went into labor and had him 5 hours later! I didn't want the recovery of a C-section, especially with another young one at home as you have. Good luck!

It's always a scary time at the end when those little suckers inside us don't want to corporate.

I did those exercises too, attempting to talk them into getting their head down. (both of mine were heads up till the very end and then moved) On my next visit, he was sideways, and on my next visit, his head was pointing at my hip bone and by the time my water broke, he was pointed down. Most of the time they move down on their own and you will not need them turned. Interesting that your Dr wants the baby head down at 37 weeks, it should be down, but they normally wait till the very last week to do it, if they need to turn.
Do whatever your Dr. wants you too, if you feel it's right. If you want to give the baby more time to move on his/her own, say it to the Dr. and don't be shy. (if you are already dilated to say a 3, I could see why the Dr wants to do it now, you likely won't go to 40 weeks, I'm sure she has her reasons, be sure to ask before you do it, remember it is your body.)

Also, if you are wearing one of those "support" belts, STOP, and if you are wearing the low cut jeans, STOP. Don't wear anything that will constrict that area. On my second one, I was wearing the support belt while I worked during the week, on a weekend I felt her move down, I could feel it plain as day. Then on Monday, put the belt on and up she went almost immediately, felt like a washing machine was turned on inside me. HA. I never wore it again, she dropped and I had her within one week. Just some ideas, hope it helps.
Good luck and I'm praying (everyone should too) for your baby to drop. There is no need for any more pain than you have to go through. God Bless.

I never had this happen personally but from what I have heard alot of dr's will induce close to the time the flip the baby so that it doesn't turn. Maybe ask about that since you will already be close anyway. Other than that do the excersizes and keep your fingers crossed. Sorry not much help, good luck!

my son was a double footling breech. he had both feet down sitting like a frog and head under my ribs. they never tried to turn my son, it was an option but they said when they are in the position he was in it is very hard, and VERY painful. I would of chose not to even if they gave me the option. I ended up having a c-section, and it was easy. i seemed to heal better then some of my friends who had their children natural. I am not saying don't try it because it is supposed to hurt, but if it doesn't work don't worry. a c-section really isn't that bad.

I found out my son was breech with both feet down about week before my due date. My doc was out of town so they scheduled a C-Section and the nurse said there was nothing I could do but the excersizes. I was scared crazy cause I had no problems with my first. But I did them and it seemed to help cause when I went in for my c-section he turned right there when they did the pre ultrasound so we tried a vaginal but unfortunately he still wouldn't come down so I had a c-section anyway. I have heard the turning hurts but if I know how you feel. I would do the excersizes too though it can't hurt. Good luck!

Hi Ashley,
My first two babies were breech, and we opted to try the version with our first (I was TERRIFIED of c-section!). My doctor was wonderful, was able to turn her 3 times, but each time she flipped back immediately. Personally, I thought it was one of the most painful things I've ever endured. They gave me some Stadol to try to relax me, but that just made me feel swimmy & in pain. Everyone will tell you something different, I know some people have versions and the child turns right away, very little discomfort, etc. The doc would not continue after 3 tries, said she was like that for a reason and didn't want undue stress on her or me any longer. So yes, I had a c-section and it was fine. I had a pretty easy recovery because I never had to go through labor and my doctor was awesome! When our 2nd child was breech, we didn't even try to turn her and scheduled a c-section. Again, nice recovery. Whatever you decide, I wish you a happy, healthy birth!

Hey Ashley,
My doctor was suppose to be the best also and she was. I was breech when I went into labor, but there was no way I wanted a ceserean after 3 kids already. It was a little painful...but nothing compared to birth. My doctor and a nurse just pushed on my stomach (real hard) and basically turned it around from the outside. One pushed down above the babys head and the other pushed up around the babys bottom. And the baby was head down in a matter of seconds. It was pretty amazing to me, beings that it was my first breech. I am not sure how common it is to turn babies this way either?!? Good luck...you'll do fine.

Ashley, sometimes the baby will turn back, but when she is ready they sometimes will turn back on there own. I had twins and I had one head down and one going across with her head under the rib and but under the other. The baby will stay what makes her the most confortable.

Hi Ashley,

I had a breech baby!!!!!!!!! My first child. a week before my water broke I had a doctors visit and the baby was in the right position but not low enough yet. My doctor had planned a regular delivery and I was also expecting one too. The morning that my water broke went to the hospital the doc did a sonagram and the baby was breech. He suggested to wait a few hrs to see if the baby change positions but it never did and I ad a c-section. I now have two children and both have been c-section and believe me I rather have a c-section that a regular birth. My son was completely healthy and he weigh 8lbs. My second child was in the right position but opted for a c-section she was also 8lbs too. I wouldnt do it any other way :) So, I am really glad I didnt had a regular delivery. it was my first child and would have been too big I think for reg delivery :) It is a hard decision to make because yes, the baby can be stubborn and turn right before your delivery, it is hard to tell. I was just wondering why she is doing it so early? If the doc does not turn the baby, maybe it can turn by itself by the time the baby is ready, you still have 4 weeks.

Hi Ashley, my baby was breech also and my doctor told me i was looking at a c-section unless she turned. What i did was get on all fours on the floor and/or put your torso down on the ground or a pillow and rock side to side with your bottom up in the air. yes i cracked up laughing. that position also helps relieve some pain in your hips. I did that for a while and she flipped!
