A spa gift certificate and a coupon from you for free babysitting for that whole day and evening. Planning a wedding with children is stressful and the one thing that most "2nd brides" don't do is set aside time for themselves to relax and enjoy the moment. You will be the queen of the shower gifts, I promise!!!

Did the bride register? That's the best place to start. I hear alot of people on 2nd marriage prefer something the couple can do together, rather than stuff for the house. Something like camping equipment.
The last shower I went to I bought a keepsake picture frame made for the wedding invitation and several coordinating empty frames in various sizes for her to put wedding photos in. Everyone said that was perfect and thoughtful and the bride still beams about it when it's brought up.

High thread count sheet set. You can normally get them at Marshall's or TJ Maxx for around $50 when they are normally $120+. It's always nice to have new linens.

- Gift certificate for a couples massage (got this as a baby shower gift and it was wonderful!)
- Gift certificate for the movies ($50 will just cover 2 adults & 3 kids)
- Crystal toasting glasses (really high-end for the dinner after)
- Nice set of bed sheets or towels (even a "second marriage" household can use new sheets and towels)
- If you are a scrapbooker (or she is), all of the items to make a great scrapbook of their wedding day and an offer to do it for her! (My sister did this for us and it was inexpensive, but awesome b/c she had "items" from the day as well as really different pictures and quotes from the day)

Hi N. -- Definitely find out if she is registered somewhere. If the invitation did not mention a gift registry, go online and check bridal registries at Crate & Barrel, Pottery Barn, Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, etc. Couples sometimes put a lot of time into selecting items that they would like and that will match their home, so I recommend getting an idea from their gift registry. If they have not registered, then one of the other suggestions you've been given would be fine. But I have been to plenty of showers where the bride receives more vases or bowls than she will ever need instead of items for which she registered. Hope this helps & you all have a great time!

I was given a bucket ice cream maker, sundae dishes (6), spoons, a recipe book, different toppings/ingredients, and rock salt. It was a wonderful and fun gift and we've used it a lot!

For a bridal shower that I attended last summer I bought the bride a real nice keepsake box and put a photo album that matched the box in it. She can keep all of her little wedding tidbits in this and then have the photo album for photos of her wedding to match. For the wedding (not sure if they have sent out the invites yet) I had the invitation engraved onto a plate. Its actually pretty common at places like Things Engraved and they may even have a deal on the package. If you purchase the plate, engraving may be half off or something like that.
Good Luck

i'm going to one too, on sat, and i was wondering the same thing yesterday. i ended up getting her a gift card from victoria secret. since its her mother in law throwing the party i didn't know what decent gift to get her. had it been her friend throwing the party i probably would have gone with a goodie basket throwing kinky books, his and hers massage oils, candles, and of course lingerie. idk... good luck

If you still have the wedding invitation, maybe you can get it framed and engraved with "The Smiths" 2011 or something. I like Things Remembered in the mall. My favorite gift from there is an engraved door knocker. Good luck

I get all brides Dr. Laura's book, "The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands." I love this book. The advice in the book really helps. Let face it, the china and linens she'll get as gifts will eventually break and fade, but her relationship is what needs to last.

Here's the link on Amazon, but most book stores carry it.
