Britax Fabric?

I am looking for a convertible car seat for my son and I think we've pretty much decided to go with the Britax Marathon based on many other reviews. I looked at a couple versions of it while I was out today and was wondering if there's any pros/cons of the different fabric choices? The ones I looked at were New Denim (all blue) and Platinum (black around the side with gray in the middle and red piping). Does anyone know if one is hotter than the other or anything like that? Thanks!

What can I do next?

We have two of them in different colors and I would say that they are both about the same in terms of heating up.

Hi -- We have the black and gray one and have not noticed it being particularly hot, but maybe that's because our back windows are tinted. I think it looks nicer than the denim one, plus prints tend to hide stains better than solids. Good choice of seat, just make sure your back seat is big enough (the Marathon takes more space than other models, particularly when you turn it to forward-facing and need room for the child's legs).

We have the Olivia print (they don't make it anymore, it is from January '07). It is one of the floral velour covers and we have never had a problem with it being too hot. It sure is comfy, though. My 27 month old LOVES hers. I have a friend who has the Platinum and they have never said anything about it being too hot.

eta: I have also washed mine twice in the washing machine on hand wash and then put it outside to dry. Came out clean as a whistle.

I have the marathon and love it, so do most of my friends, some with multiple ones. I've seen almost every single one of the fabrics they have now, except the collegiate line (you can get your favorite sports college). I don't think any of them are much different as far as getting hot or what. I have the all black velour type one, which I thought looked cool when I was pregnant. Once I had my son, I panicked because you're not suppose to wash them in a machine and it gets SO dirty, but even this very soft material cleans so easily with a rag (and if it's stick or yucky, maybe a squirt of simple green on the rag. I would honestly say, whatever one you think you like the best is probably fine, this is an AWESOME car seat line!!

We have the one with the black, gray, and red piping and it is way too hot! We have to keep a blanket on it to keep the sun off and even that doesn't always work. It is my only complaint about the carseat. I would definitely recommend getting a lighter color and ideally a soft material. (The gray on the one we have is kind of nylon-y feeling rather than a soft fabric like the black on the sides.)

We had the denim in the roundabout and it rubbed off blue tint on all my baby's white socks. It was better after we washed it. We loved the carseat and I would buy it again fabric and all.

We have a Britax Boulevard with a velour cover and a Diplomat in Onyx. I highly recommend that you not get any of the velour type covers. I thought the velour cover would be more comfortable, but any comfort it provides is negated by the fact that it makes my daughter sweat a lot. She is much more comfortable in the Onyx cover (which looks similar to the Platinum cover). Personally, I think the black cover looks nicer than the denim one, but that's just my preference. Another benefit of the Platinum cover is that you get the velour part just where your son will rest his head.

I went online and read tons of favorable reviews for Britax - but when I got to the store, I went an entirely different direction. Not for lack of quality - but rather comfort! If you have a big 9mo old like me, he won't be comfy in the Britax because it is so narrow. My advice is to just bring him to a store like babies r us to sit him in it first.

Good luck!

I never even worried about fabric color when choosing my car seats, except for what looks good :) What I do is keep a small blanket in the car and cover the seat if the seat is going to be in the sun. Make sure you cover all metal parts.

Hope that helps

My friend has the denim and it has really faded in just a couple of years. We got our britax (boulevard-Love it) online; it is much cheaper and many of the sites are tax-free; we were very pleased with babyuniverse.com and they have about 5 or 6 fabric choices for the marathon (I did notice the prices have really gone up in the 6 mo since we got ours). We have the onyx (black and gray) and it has not been hot; however, we do have tinted windows on our minivan.

I am not positive about the pros and cons of the different Britax fabrics but when we went to buy my daughter's Marathon, I took her with me to the store and tried her in both and she seriously preferred the all fabric one rather than the black and silver one (Platinum)and I agreed that the fabric was much softer so that is the one we went with. If you prefer the fabric but don't like the color choices in the stores you can order the carseat online. That is what we did and are very happy with our choice. Good luck!

We have 2 Marathons both in floral patterns and they do get warm in them but I they were warm in their old carseats as well. I have had only one problem with the fabric and that was a lollipop stuck to it pulling a little of the velour off. I called the company and they sent a new cover right away. The girls love them and we are getting another one for the baby once she out grows her carrier.

We have a Britax Marathon and Britax Husky (now called Regent) in denim and are very pleased with them. The salesperson who helped me with the purchase of the Marathon indicated that the denim fabric is breathable and would be cooler. I find this to be true. We have another Britax Regent in the Sahara fabric, and my son who sits in that seat does say he's hot quite often. The only reason his seat is not in the denim fabric is because the Regent wasn't offered in denim. I definitely would've preferred another denim seat.

We have two Britax (for my now 4 year old) and love them! One is the tan fabric and one (my favorite) is the "moo" fabric. The moo is great in terms of not looking dirty. I think the lighter fabrics help in terms of heat, but I believe they're all similar material. We moved here from Houston (talk about hot!) and I just had to crank up the AC when we got in the car:-)

Someone mentioned you're not supposed to machine wash, but that's all I've ever done. Just wash on gentle cycle with gentle detergent and hang on a hanger to dry...voila! They wash beautifully.
Good luck, K.

The denmim fades easily, so if you plan to use the seat for the 6 years it is safe, you might want to go with the black. I have 2 printed fabric covers, but I have friends who have regretted their denim choice.

Fabulous carseat, by the way! Great choice :)
