so I'm from the land of a thousand mosquitos, and my daughter got bit in her forehead about an inch above her right eyebrow. and it was from a little sucker too! she was fine that night, but Friday morning her eyes were puffy. I figured it was because she was sleepy and we woke her up early but it has just been getting worse since!!
she now has like a "neanderthal" brow, she says it hurts (she's 2 1/2yrs so that's about the extent she can tell me about it) her eyes are puffy and it's worrying me!! it's NOT her first mosquito bite at all! I hate to do it but she's been on Benedryl since Friday night (I'd rather do herbal healing, but I needed something to work fast!)

is there anything else I can do for her? I found some natural anti-itch ointment to rub on it, but it doesn't seem to be going down that fast, and she won't keep a cold pack or a cool cloth on it. any ideas?

What can I do next?

If the benedryl isn't working (and do NOT feel bad about that, there is NO herbal anything that works like benedryl does), take her to the ER or a walk-in place. Swollen eyes like that signal a bad reaction and she probably needs a dose of steroids to help. Remember, anyone at any time can react to anything. I have seen the weirdest allergic reactions in my almost 19 years as a mom, even to things the child never reacted to before or since, and I don't mess with severe reactions like you daughter's. Time to take her to see someone. I hope she feels better soon.

I'm allergic to mosquito bites and mine can swell up to several inches in diameter. It's miserable.

You can try to get the swelling down and relieve the itching and pain with a rice pack. Fill a clean sock with rice, tie the end and stick it in the freezer. It's softer and easier to hold over the face than a regular ice bag.

Benadryl has been around forever and is a good mild med to use for children.

My concern would be that she has pain. My bites swell up and feel tender. But pain can mean that the bite has become infected and since this one is on your daughter's face and the swelling is around her eyes, I'd take her to the doctor.

Make a paste with baking soda and water and put on bug bites.

I've heard ice on the bite along with toothpaste helps pull the venom out.

We had the first relatively mosquito free summer ever last year. I think I had two bites all summer. We were camping this Monday and Tuesday and I was eaten alive! I don't remember ever reacting this bad. They are all so swollen and itchy. I think it is because the natural tolerance I had built up year after year was diminished from not having been bitten last year. I also remember my kids reacting really badly when they were little and hadn't built up a tolerance. Anyway, I hope something works for your daughter, because I have tried everything this week and nothing is working. I've been scratching my ankles and calves all night long, and my legs are disgusting!

If the Benadryl did not work immediately something else is going on. It works very very very quickly. That is why it is only for real allergic reactions and not just a runny nose. It stops the mast cells from reacting. They are obviously still reacting so it is not just an allergic reaction. I would call the pediatrician and get their advice. They may also want to see her right away in the morning.

I am not sure what bit her but it doesn't sound like a mosquito. Maybe good the symptoms and add mosquito and it will throw out what really bit her.

Sometimes they can get infected. Take her to the doctor to get it checked out. I usually put hydrocortisone cream on the bite first, then a thick coat of calamine lotion. It seems to stop the itching, so that it doesn't scab. Good luck and hope she is feeling better soon.
