I am about to start a website for my business. I have very little knowledge about how to build a website so I want to go with a company that has easy steps. Please give me your recommendations for who you like or don't like. I thought about using godaddy.com but I have heard there are easier ones to use.

Thanks,
L.

So What Happened?

I would like to cliarify. I want to build it myself. It will be a fairly simple website. It really is more of an informational site. I know there are website templates and you just add your information so I am looking for feedback on which ones are the easiest to use.

Interview several places, and get tons of examples and reviews. I own a small business and have had to rebuild the site twice due to inadequate web masters. The work "looked" good, but the coding for HTML, CSS, SEO, etc.. was TERRIBLE!! It took tons of time and wasted money. Good Luck!

I've used PowWeb for about 8 years now. LOVE them! They are sooo cheap, but you get TONS of space (unlimited!) and bandwidth. Plus they have so many other features included. I am a Web programmer, but they do have some tools to help you build your own site.

It's on sale right now too! Here's their features page: http://www.powweb.com/join/index.bml?AffID=558795

I've worked with clients who don't use PowWeb and their control panels are always sooo confusing! I hate them! lol And yes, that includes GoDaddy.

Let me know if you have any questions about Web sites, no matter what hosting you choose. I will be glad to help you out!

Good Morning. I wanted to creat a website for our trailride group but i wanted something inexpensive and easy to use. I went with www.vistaprint.com. They usually have a special for the first month is free and they are very cheap. I signed up and had about half the sight created on my lunch break. They supply you with a domain name and your website plus email addresses. I like it so far and it is has been very easy to use. You can also create enotes to send out to your contact list, those are easy to create as well. You can take a look at mine to get an idea, www.canvassriders.com

Good luck!!

As a web designer of 16+ years I will tell you that that GoDaddy is my least favorite service provider along with Earthlink. For my personal website and friends I use webmasters.com - easy setup and great technical support. Most ISPs will provide the same tool for website templates. Good luck.

There are so many tools out there, it's really a matter of preference.
For anyone designing a web site, I recommend taking a look at the Web Pages That Suck site (learn good web design by looking at (very) bad web design).
http://www.webpagesthatsuck.com
I check it out every so often, and the Daily Sucker really gives me a good laugh sometimes. Knowing what pitfalls to avoid really helps your site right from the get go.

It depends on the website. I have never used godaddy, though have heard it's good, but have used freewebs and played around with wix. I also use blogger (it's easy and has tons of tutorials and free headers and such you can add), and wordpress is good too. If you will be adding a direct shopping cart, paypal and google checkout have codes for that, though there is a need to upgrade for things such as multi-shipping discounts, in state taxes, international shipping approval and the like. If the website is more information based as a hub for people to contact you for services, than any of then above can work.

Hi Lisa,
It depends on what you want. Do you want to build it yourself, or have someone do it for you? Many people use Wordpress for their personal business website. There are tons of free templates you can use with wp to make it your own. http://wordpressthemesbase.com/business/
You can change the color scheme, etc. You might try googling it to see what you can come up with. Enjoy! It's an exciting time putting up your website.

I had my site built in HTML, which will allow more people to view it. I am having a friend write the code based on my instruction. I do have a bit of background, so am able to keep up with his questions, but he can nearly do anything in HTML. We are not done yet, as I do have to provide him my galleries, but he has been able to keep everything done very timely. If you have any interest, send me a message and I can put you in contact to see if this is something that will work for you.

Most important, I trust him and his knowledge enough to do the work for me.
