I need help my baby girl is almost 6 months old. I have been breastfeeding since she was born. When she turned 4 months I got my first period since she was born. I am taking BC and have not had another one since. I am not worried about being pregnant but my milk supply is really low. I pump while I am at work and when I get home. I started taking Blessed Thistle but it does not seem to be working. Does any one know what else i can do to regain a steady flow?

What can I do next?

Hi, U.!

As recommended by my midwife, I used fenugreek capsules to help boost my supply. I also drank a tea called Mother's Milk from Traditional Medicinals, which contains fenugreek and other milk production boosting herbs. Its completely safe for both you and your baby, and tastes great!

I am using a copper IUD for birth control (no hormones in it), as I was advised that any form of hormonal birth control (i.e. the Pill) would reduce my milk supply.

Congrats on your ongoing breastfeeding relationship!

I only wanted to point out one thing... you need to make sure that the birth control that you are on is for breastfeeding mothers. There are only like 2 types of pills that are recommended. All others will definatly/signifacantly decrease your milk supply. Wish you the best!

I also doing the same right now and am having success with pumping every 2-3 hours for at least 10 minute, drinking more water, and taking fenugreek. Good luck!

Regular birth conttol pills that contain estrogen will affect your milk supply. I hope your doctor prescribed the progestin-only pill, or POP. This type requires that you take it very regularly and don't skip. This was what I used and was successful nursing my first.
