My husband and I have found our "dream" car for him last night. I emailed the person today about it she said the car is in PA but we are in TX. She stated that she posted it on Craigslist in Dallas because she wants to sell it fast so was posting it everywhere to sell it quicker. The thing is, is that she is going through ebay... aparently you go through ebay and they will ship the car to you. You have 5 days to review the car or whatever and decide if you like it. If you don't you send it back and they don't send her the money? Have any of you done this before and don't get screwed out of money? It is a really good deal for this car and I don't want it to slip away if at all possible? The car is selling for 5800 and that would include shipping and EVERYTHING for it. So I don't have to pay extra for the car to be shipped. This is what she is telling me. Please let me know if this is a good idea to do or just to let it go and look locally?
My Dad is a dealer on Ebay Motors and when he sells the buyers always fly to Dallas to look at and pick up car. They don't ship. It is probably a scam as mentioned below!
The thing is that the only way for you to know if the car is worth buying is to go to PA and decide for yourself. That way, you will only be out plane tickets instead of the whole $5,800 in case it is a scam. It may be legit, but it may not be. Regardless, I can't believe there isn't a car you like in D/FW. Sounds like a big worry and hassle just to save some money.
It is a SCAM. I responded to one of these too good to be true ads on my local Craigslist a few months ago. It is exactly that, TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE. Expect to get a bunch of junk mail in your email now as well.
My husband just responded to an ad like that and we called ebay motors to see if it was legit and it was not. That is your best bet is to contact ebay motors.
Hmm, sounds a little iffy to me. If it's really a good deal you'd figure they could sell it quick on their local craigslist. I know there's some kind of scam where they refer to an ebay buyer protection program where you send them money and never get the car. Just remember it it's too good to be true, it probably is. Maybe check with ebay and see if they have some kind of rules, regs.? Good luck!
This smells like a scam to me. I'd hate for you to lose your hard earned money.
We have sold a car out of state on Craigslist. The man lived in Kansas and he saw our ad in the Dallas CL. After many emails, calls, pictures, etc.... He flew here from KS, my hubby picked him up at the airport, they went to the bank where I had the car.
This worked out great for us, it was his dream car, he gave us cash for exactly what we asked on CL. He never test drove the car. Granted....it was obvious that it was in tip top shape and well cared for. He got it about a year ago and he still emails me on occasion telling me how he loves it. It was my dream car before hubby got me my real dream car.
Just be VERY cautious. There are a lot of scammers out there.
We have never purchased a car on eBay but have purchased many other items including some fairly high priced electronics. We have usually had no problems with sellers but have occasionally not received the item or the item was not as described. When we have gone through eBay for issue we have always gotten our money back. I would read the eBay policy closely and make sure you are completing the transaction in accordance with their policy, but if so I would trust eBay to stand behind their policy. If the seller is trying to negotiate with you off of the eBay site and you are not completing the purchase through eBay then you're taking your chances.

I know someone who bought a Benz off e-bay. It was the dream car, good price, low miles, ect. The first 3-4yrs they had it, it was constantly in the shop for one reason after another. They love it now, but only after putting tons of money into it. They probably could have bought a brand new car for what it ended up costing them in the long run....Of course it ran perfect in those first five days :)
IT IS A SCAM. I see this all the time on craigslist. They are usually getting a divorce or in the military and trying to sale it quick. I got a email the other day like that i replied my name is sally stupid and flagged it to be removed from craigslist. They put it back up a few days later and i flagged it again. I do not like to see people lose their hard earned money and it makes me mad for people to post stupid stuff out their like that. A neighbor bought a tractor in another state but he had to make the arrangements to get it. He drove to the place and saw what he was getting and paid. Pray about it.
