I read an entry 2 weeks ago on a website for purchasing preschool - kindergarten books. I went to the site and thought it was awesome with book recommendations by age. Can anyone please help me find different children's book website?

What can I do next?

I agree with all of the other posters on the sites they have recommended. but here is one more recommendation. Go to thrift stores and second hand stores. Books run from 25cents to .99cents. can't go wrong with a cartful of books for a cheap price.

Here's a very high-quality website beloved by myself and my best teacher friends:

http://www.chinaberry.com/

The quality and content of the books is wonderful, the books are lovely, handchosen, and there are other resources on the site as well. No "junk" books, either. This is especially useful for those of us who prefer books which don't feature media characters.

Happy reading,
H.

Scholastic is the leader in children's books. You can check out their website. Within the next month the elemtary schools should be having their spring book fairs. You may want to stop in and take a look.

Check out www.arbookfind.com. (not for purchasing, just for info - ratings by kids, grade levels, and difficulty) This is part of the Renaissance Learning program that is being used in many schools. Send me a PM if you want more info.

If your interested in used books, you may want to check out www.paperbookswap.com. Which is books for everyone-kids,adults, students. It's basically a program where you swap books, but you can also purchase them.

Happy reading.

I like Scholastic books as well. Is your child in preschool now? Usually preschool teachers get the book order forms and can send them home once a month. They are great b/c they often have a varitey of inexpensive but fabulous books! For sure your child will get these in K and if not, ask the teacher! Ask the preschool teachers too!

I have bought from Barnes and Noble too. Are you familiar with Usborne books. I don't know the website but they are awesome! They have books ranging in all ages and activity. They have some really good practice books to help kids write letters, tie shoes, etc. Plus they have some kits that have costumes I think too. I am a bit obsessive about children's books I'm afraid and we have a ton of books around here!

Scholastic

www.scholastic.com

This is where, schools get their books.

Or, go to Amazon, and per age, do a search on books.
you can read the reviews of it there too.

I wouldn't buy them online...if you live near St Louis, do they have half price book stores. I have found the best books there and they are usually on sale. Your child may end up 'loving' the book to pieces. It is better to a used book than one you paid a lot of money for. And the local libraries have book lists by age, and they are free

Scholastics is my answer too. this is where the school gets most of their books and the AR test are from these books so I would purchase from there.

I also get books from Borders.com. Sometimes they have specials that you don't get at the store. You can look by age as well as subject or genre and split it by boy or girl.

The best deal around is your local library. You can usually check out 15 - 20 children's books at a time. The librarian can help you choose age appropriate books AND she knows what the kids really like.
I went through the library and if I found a book they loved and I loved, I bought it.
When your children get to school, they will have library time. The Librarian will make sure they have age/reading level appropriate books to take home each week. You may want to even check with her.
We have a large collection of children's Christmas books that I take out during the Christmas season. My teens love to see that basket come out after Thanksgiving! They sit and laugh and read... it's cool!

For cheapo books - go to library book fairs and tag sales (especially at churches). Books will cost anywhere from 25 cents to 2 dollars. And so many are like new!
