We are a young couple with a 2 yr old son in the process of buying a home in TX. We are looking to buy a house in a good school district, which is very important to us. We short list Coppell area as among the most suitable since its close to our work. But after seeing a some houses in the area, we feel its very old n outdated.

Some of my frnds suggested Castle Hills Community in Lewisville. The house are good with the features we are looking.
I have done my research on the schools near Castle Hills, the elemantary schools seems to be good, but the middle and high schools have mixed reviews....which makes me a little concerned.

I needed some reviews/suggestion from moms living in the area or who have frnds who are in the area, to give me some info on the schools there, n make our first home buying decision earier.

good school is very important to us so plz help us.

Thank you All

Thank you all for the inputs. Its really helped me narrow down my choices.
Coppell : As most say has great school district and a good buy if you are good with older homes.W are still considering seeing some good home in our budget here.
Flower Mound : I agree schools are great here, but I have heard some health issues in kids in this area due to oil drilling process....does anyone have some insight on this ?
Castle Hills : Again great choice, but have to wait n see how the school dist in such would improve. Will do more research on this as well.

Will keep you posted on where we land.Thank you all once again!!!

I work at a middle school in the area. It would depend on which middle school you would be zoned to. The high school would also depend on this same question. I would say that a certain middle school would be great and the other may not be. The same for the high schools.

You could check out Keller and Trophy Club. If you look at houses in Keller make sure you drive through Marshall Ridge on 377 and Keller Hicks. A new elementary school is being built in the neighborhood.

We have lived in Grapevine and Colleyville and the schools are great. There may be 1 or 2 in the district that aren't quite as good, but overall the district is really great. Good luck! You are the only one that will know if you like the area. And, there is no need to sacrifice liking both the area you live and the school, around here. There are just too many great schools an great neighborhoods.

Check Harmony Schools...they have Excellent ratings. My daughter is 2 yrs old and I'm planning to register her in that school. I know they have waiting list for some grades.

We looked at over 70 houses in Coppell, Carrollton, Grapevine and then eventually Frisco and a small part of The Colony. We loved Castle Hills and tried hard to find a house in that neighborhood that met our needs, but there were no existing homes or any under construction at the time that worked for us. We had a baby due in 2-3 months. We had an offer on a house in a neighborhood called The Homestead at Carrollton which is about 5-10 years old and has great amenities. It fell through due to an illness in the owners' family. We were having inspections done and in the process, the structural engineer told us that homes in Castle Hills have the worst structural issues of any in the entire country - so that is something to be aware of.

I don't know what your price range is, but if you were looking in Castle Hills then you may also like The Tribute. It is at the end of Lebanon Road near 423 and is about 6 miles from Castle Hills. The address is The Colony, but it is essentially Frisco. The schools are Little Elm ISD which at the elementary level have exemplary ratings. Hackberry Elem. is the current school. The school district has already purchased land in the neighborhood to build a new elementary school which will go under construction within 5 years.

If you are close to Coppell then Flower Mound should also work for you. I have lived in Flower Mound-Lewsiville for 25 years and had 7 kids graduate from Lewisville High. The drive from Castle Hills to I assume somewhere on 114 will be slow go coming and going.
I would look around the 3040 area of Flower Mound. Good schools great neighborhoods. If you don't have a realtor I would contact Greg Yeater at REMAX. He is great and knows the area really well.

As a MOM of 7 and a grandmother of 12 the most important educator is you. The Peers at a childs school are much more important than the school and parents are the most important. Besides if your child is 2 the chances you will be in the same district are slim.

What I can tell you now is that there are two different elementary schools for which CH is zoned so the area of CH that you live in will determine which elementary school your son would attend. I believe all of CH is zoned for the same middle and high schools. However, the area is so big and growing so fast that by the time your son is ready for any of these schools, districting lines will be changed (there are several new elem., middle and high schools 'in the works' nearby) and the schools that we are currently zoned for will change for all levels.

In a nutshell, the middle and high schools that CH are currently zoned for will most likely look much different by the time your son is ready for school. There is just so much development here that nothing is static right now.

I wish you all the luck with your decision!

I don't know what you heard but if it was negative about Hebron High School then you were seriously misled. I moved from California (Los Angeles) 3 years ago and would rather cut off my right arm then allow my children to attend public high school out there. They were in private christian school all their lives. I basically worked just to put them through school. Now that we are out here I do not regret a moment. They are very involved in their school. I have never had a problem with the staff etc. I'm sure there are trouble makers there but that will be in any school but as far as rules they seem pretty strick to me and that's coming from a private school background. My daughter's friend got detention for saying the "s" word. I think the Castle Hills area is beautiful and very good people...very family oriented. You will love it there.
