When did you start driving after your c-section? With my first I waited almost 8 weeks because I had a bad recovery and my second I don't remember when. I just had my third two weeks ago and feel pretty good to drive but don't know if I really should.

What can I do next?

I had my 3rd c section in june and waited to drive 13 days. I cant remember how long I waited with my first one, I think I waited the 6 weeks like they told me to. With my 2nd I waited 3 weeks.

My dr. advised me to wait 2 weeks. I didn't wait any longer than those 2 weeks w/either of my c-sections & drove w/o any problems.

I think it was 4 weeks with me. I was in a lot of pain and when I did drive to the grocery store I was completely exhausted. I know some women don't have as much pain as I do but I could barely get out of bed for days after the surgery. I would wait at least 2 weeks, could be longer though.

I think it depends on how you feel, I started driving a week after mine, i felt like i could do it so i did, but if you feel like maybe you should wait then go with your instinct! Some people recover a lot faster then others so do what your body tells you, try once and see how you feel but go with your husband or friend just in case you don't feel like you should drive back!

With my first 2 weeks. With the 2nd, 1 week.

My friend's OB gave her the following guide to see if she was ready to drive. Sit in your driveway (in the driver's seat) and slam on the breaks a few times. If you have no pain, you are ready to drive.

I just had a c-section 2 1/2 weeks ago. My doctor said to wait 2 weeks. I started driving about 2 days prior to that, just out of necessity. I was done needing the major pain meds as well.

I drove after two weeks with my third. (I had to get my other two to school). But I also felt great so good that even two days after my surgery the doctor discharged me from the hospital.

With my other two c sections, I had terrible recoveries too. Both took four months to completely heal but I know that I was driving somewhere before that.

Just take it easy and only go on a needed basis. I would leave the baby seat in the car and take the baby to the carrier. This way you are not lifting baby and carrier.

Good luck and congratulations!

With the first, my husband brought me home from the hospital. Our apartment had flooded. I went in, looked around, and decided I couldn't sit there without working to clean it up. I put the baby in the car and drove myself to the drugstore. Picked up my pain meds. and drove to the mall to get girl clothes. I didn't drive long distances.

I am sure I didn't do quite that much with the second and third. When the fourth came around my husband overheard the doctor tell me not to drive for at least three weeks and he wouldn't let me leave the house without a driver. I HATED IT!

Congratulations on adding two feet to your house!!

My doc told me no driving for 2 weeks. That doesn't mean you *have* to start driving at 2 weeks and 1 day. How do you feel? Are you still on pain meds? How are your reflexes? Can you turn at the waist to look behind you without pain? I healed incredibly quickly from my section, and was no longer taking the pain meds after a week, so I was more than ready to get behind the wheel at 2 weeks. Best of luck to you.

After my first I felt pretty good after a few weeks. I tried to drive. HUGE mistake. It wasn't the driving that got me so much, it was the activity after. I drove to the grocery with the baby and by the time I got done shopping, I was almost too exhausted to drive home. You don't realize how much it takes out of you! With my second I waited 4 weeks and I did much better. I would recommend waiting if you can. If you're on pain meds, you can't drive at all. Just take it easy and let your body recover.

My doctor told me I could start driving as soon as I didn't need pain meds - made perfect sense to me =)
