C-section Recovery - Is This Normal?

Hi Moms. I had a c-section exactly one month ago, so I'm due for my 6 week check-up in a week and a half. I'm still rather sore at my incision site, especially by evening time. This is my second CS, my first was 4 years ago and I remember feeling much better than I do at this time postpartum (I'm in my 5th week). I also had a bit more repair work done during the surgery involving some scar tissue and my bladder. I just wonder if any other CS moms were still quite sore just before their 6 weeks was up. Sometimes it's my skin that hurts because the nerves are coming back, but sometimes it's an internal soreness. I still take my 800mg of Ib once a day. Some days I can do without, but lately I've been taking it by evening time. It may not even be working anymore... TMI alert: I'm still experiencing a bit of a flow, but no fresh, red blood - so that's good. No infection threat or anything either. I am taking care of the baby of course, my 4 year old, trying to keep up with housework and bending a bit during the day. Not lifting anything heavy - no laundry or my 4 year old or anything. So perhaps it's just a sign that I've been doing too much the past few days (I did make a trip to the grocery store for Thanksgiving shopping this weekend). Anyway, I may call my Dr tomorrow, but before I do, I wondered if anyone else experienced the extended soreness and if it was possibly normal. Thanks for the help, Moms. Sometimes you just need reassurance or a push to slow down :)

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the reassurance. I probably still will call the Dr tomorrow just in case, but I had a feeling it was probably normal due to it being a repeat CS and the extra work. I'm also very inpatient and would like to be back to normal soon - ha ha. I know it takes time! I appreciate your responses :) Thanks again!

I had two C's and my incision pain didnt last that long, but I had internal pain just below my belly button for some time. I bled for about a month and a half.

I was still sensitive at that time. i would take it easy and slow it down. That way you really recover the way you should and don't prolong it by doing too much, too quick. Happy healing to you!

With my first I was in pain for MONTHS. My second, by week 2 I felt almost normal. I think a lot depends on how the surgery went and how much you are doing after. You could be doing too much, or the surgery could have been a bit more rough. Can't hurt to call the doctor. I hope you feel better soon!

I've had 3 & my last was the worst. I was uncomfortable longer than w/ the 1st two. About the bleeding, I bled for about 7 to 8 wks. Not a lot but brown spotting.

It took me 6 months to feel normal again. At 6 weeks I still had trouble sitting up to get out of bed!
If soreness is increasing it gets later in the day my guess is that you need to slow down.

I was still sensitive after the first month. More in my back then anywhere else ( go figure)..However, I remember it being the most sensitive where the incision site was. It probably is due to the fact that you have more scar tissue, and had more repair work done that is causing more of the pain. If you are still bleeding, however, I would call the doctor and make sure that is normal. I don't remember bleeding for that long afterwards, except when I started my first period about 7 weeks after. I hope this helps! I had one almost 8 years ago, so my memory isn't as good.

they only gave you ib? I got perkacets and ib. I had my first C-Section 7 months ago with my second son. I hurt pretty bad for two months. I did nothing for that long too, my husband did everything. But what you saw sounds like what I had and sounds normal. hope you feel better soon.

So hard for me to remember. I have a 5 year old and a 2 1/2 year old, so it's been awhile. I don't remember having too much discomfort after almost 5 weeks, but I really don't remember.

My guess is, it's nothing to worry about. Like Mom2KCK said, there are so many factors involved, and it might be that after taking care of yourself, your newborn and your 4 year old all day your body is ready for some down time.

I wouldn't worry too much, but it's definitely worth a call to the doctor. I would call tomorrow. I would not wait until the checkup because, at the off-chance that it is something that needs to be checked out, you probably don't want to wait.

Good luck! I'm sure it's nothing, but better safe than sorry.

I Had my cs about 13 months ago. Its was horrible lol!! The postion layed about 2 months and I started noticing a big difference. I thought I had an infection or something but everything was fine. I would try just relaxing as much as possible!! I know thats easier said then done.

I had soreness for awhile, I too had a ton of scar tissue removed and he cleaned up my uterus of some cysts that had formed. I also had a problem with my bladder having fused together with my colon, during my pregnancy I was in a tone of pain, so the pain I felt for my recovery was a breeze in comparison. I had sharp pain where he had tied the knots for the closer. I had to be really careful how quickly I got out of bed bc that was painful. I ahd very little bleeding I guess bc he cleaned out my uterus so much. gl it will get better.

This sounds very normal for a lady who is recovering from a c-section that is tending to over due it a bit. First off, 800mg of Motrin once a day is not really anything at all. You telling me you need it in the evening is what is telling me you are over doing it. Also the fact that you still have a locia flow means that you are over-doing it. Good for you not to be lifting (especially your preschooler) and bending should still be limited. So good job at that. You should still be limiting any vaccuming, mopping and sweeping. So if those are activities you are doing, then 'zap' that. It is very common to have more soreness after the second c-section because of the scar tissue and the fact you have cut into more nerves than the first time. Also not a good idea to go shopping, if it requires you to push a cart. Women do not realize the activities that require the super use of abdominal muscles. That is the reason we restrict driving for two weeks, after the c-section. The same type of muscles are used during cart pushing. You also use a lot of those musles getting things off the shelf at the store. Did you know that most doctors do not release you back to work for 8 weeks after a c-section. So give yourself a bit more time before you attempt "normal". CONGRATULATIONS on your little one!
