I have just had a c section on the 15th December and would love advice on how best to recover from it. I am shocked by my own response to having the operation and would love advice on how to deal with post operative recovery both physical and emotional.

What can I do next?

order manuka honey from synergy company to heal your wound. after your wound heals get some castor oil from premier labs and make a pack and place it on your abdomen. it will help get rid of scar tissue on your stomach. the scar tissue is horrible because it is hard and there's a dull pain. do the castor oil pack with heat often until the scar tissue is gone but this should actually prevent it. also having a massage therapist massge that area will help and get a foot massge to bring any swelling down.

having a c-section is horrible but then if you have a healthy baby that is all that matters. some women that have birth naturally have major vaginal problems. so a c-section is not that bad considering some women's uterus falls out from natural delivery.

your baby decided to enter the world this way.

Hi S.,
Congratulations on the birth of your child! I have had 2 c-sections and will be having one at the end of April with my third child. I would just say to take it easy and don't try to lift too much. They say that you should only lift as much as the baby weighs until you are healed. Just don't do too much and if anyone offers to help you with anything take them up on it. I was lucky because my parents live close by and they were a great help with helping me with my daughter when my son was born.

Emotional for me was really hard but I over came. My 2 little ones already at home wanted me to carry them and play with them but I just couldn't I was in too much pain. But my recovery seemed to be fast. I just had a lot of rest and tried to take care of myself as much as I could. My advise would be to relax and try not to do too much the pain will pass and you will be just fine. Good luck to you and I hope you have a safe recovery. J.

Dear Sophia, bed rest is really the key to recovery. This will enable your body to heal from the surgery as well as the trauma along with being able to do the every day functions and make milk. Try to keep the levels of meds to a minimum. Eat well and drink fluids. There are homeopathic lotions that can be applied to the suture area to assist in the healing and scarring. I hope that is helpful.

I had an emergency c-section b/c my amniotic fluid was low and my daughter is totally fine but its made me especially tired. My advice is to take it as easy as you can, rest when the baby rests and not stress about doing too much. You had major surgery but the most important thing is that you and the baby are healthy.

S.,
I too had a C-section after 22hrs of labor. It was a difficult recovery for me because I was so tired. I'm not sure what you are experiencing but I had a hard time standing for any length of time. I was also really wiped out. What I did was sleep when my daughter slept (which proved to be very difficult because I had stuff I wanted to do i.e. eat, go to the bathroom etc.) I also made sure I went on short walks in the neighborhood to build up my strength, but I sat when I needed to...I didn't push it. This also proved difficult because I was dancer & instructor for 10 years before having my daughter & I was used to pushing through the pain. I also ate alot of red meat although I'm not sure if that had anything to do with my recovery, but it made me feel better. The most important thing I had to realize was I just went through major surgery (they cut through your abdominal muscles) & to give myself a break when I was just to tired. Recovery will seem slow, especially at first, but take care of yourself & I assure you you will get better. Congratulations & good luck!

Hi S.,

There is an excellent support group called the International Cesarean Awareness Network. They have local chapters and an online group of moms that you can share your feelings and get help/support from. Here's the link.

I forced myself to walk everyday. It made my recovery pretty quick. Good luck!
