Have any of you wonderful moms tried the Wilton Cake Decorating classes?

I want to learn the basics, but I am a bit worried that it will be too hard for me. I love to bake and cook, but I am not artistic or particularly creative.

Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

What can I do next?

I took all three of the Wilton Cake Decorating classes years ago. It was so much fun that I started teaching the classes as well! What I always told my students was that cake decorating is not hard -- you just have to know how to do it. Once you know the techniques and the trade "secrets" you can make marvelous cakes. And if you're not particularly creative, Wilton publishes a Yearbook each July with photos and instructions on many different types of cakes; just use these as guides or for inspiration. I highly encourage you to take that first class and see how much fun it can be. You can sign up for classes at your local Michael's store. Have fun!

I took a class YEARS ago - it was a beginners Wilton, and it was pretty easy, and lots of fun. I took the cakes to work so my co-workers could eat them instead of me :) Didn't turn it into a business (I run a child shuttle service now), but that wasn't my goal. Just fun! Enjoy - you'll be fine :)

I don't know where you're located but Cakes Amore in Plano offers cake decorating classes. They are a great business and teach the Wilton method and their method (there's more than one way to skin a cat right?) You can google them and I think they list their schedule online. Have fun!

I have a friend who took the classes several years ago. She did it just for fun. She started making cakes on the side for a little extra money. Now she gets booked very quickly, and sometimes has to turn people away b/c she doesn't have time. She loves it! I don't think she really expected to have a hobby that was for fun turn into a little side business.
I would say go for it, even if it's just for fun!

You can find cake decorating classes at Hobby Lobby, Michael's or like stores. Good luck with the search.
