Cake Ideas

We did cupcakes for my daughter's first. Pink icing, then I got those candy molds to make little candy butterflies to put on top of each cupcake. You could have pink icing on the cupcakes and brown candy to make either giant dots or bears or anything. The molds come in all kinds of shapes.

I have a little girl also and I did a little brown teddy bear with pink paws, tummy and inner ears. There's a bear cake pan out there that makes it sooooo easy!

I just made cupcakes for a friend's daughter's first birthday. I made vanilla cupcakes with strawberry cream cheese icing and chocolate cupcakes with marshmallow buttercream. To decorate them, I printed large B's in a pretty font (the first letter of her name), laid wax paper over the top. With melted chocolate in a little icing bottle (i got a michael's) I traced the pretty letters and froze them. I stuck a little B's in the top of the cupcake and covered the lower part in sprinkles.

I agree with Jennifer B...the teddy bear cake with pink and brown would look really cute. Then you could get some really sassy pink and brown napkins and plates. At Michaels they have a flat bear pan but they also have a "3D" bear pan that actually sits up and looks like a real teddy bear. I made this for my daughter's third birthday (she had a Noah's Ark Workshop party where they choose and stuff their own bear/animal...loads of fun, would highly recommend Regina for your girl's 3rd bday party!!) and it was so easy and my daughter thought is was great.

For my daughters first birthday I did a cupcake cake in the shape of a one. It was so much easier...no mess!!! Everyone grabbed a cupcake and continued to grab as they went. i bought it at target; it is the same cost as a sheet cake. For her cake I just did a round cake with the same colors...I also did pink and brown (but they can make anything) when doing pink and brown bring in samples of the colors that you want...because they interpret colors different than what you see in your head

Make it simple, yet memorable. Use the 2 colors to make polka-dots on a white cake.

If you can find one, dress Amanda in a matching polka-dotted outfit. It sounds toooo cute! :o)

Polka dots are so easy! Bake the cake and frost it white. You can even use storebought frosting! Then, use a little food color to make pink (use gel food color for a better pink) and storebought chocolate for the dots. You can just scoop some frosting into ziploc bags, then snip the corner to squirt the frosting out. My daughter's first birthday was all about polka dots, and the colors came from some polka dot tissue paper I found at Target that I had used to wrap her gifts. I baked some mini-cupcakes to stack on top of the cake, and gave one of those to her for her to squish and make a mess of.

I just had two cakes made for my babyshowers that were pink and brown. They both had fondant (not sure on spelling) with polka dots on them. My sister made them both and just interchanged the colors each time on the cake and on the polka dots. The fondant makes the cake look perfectly smooth and she used fondant on the polka dots as well. You could probably do the same thing with icing but the fondant makes the cakes look more elegant.

My son is 13 now but when I look back on his pics I always love that I chose "The Big One"
so if you make your cake pink and brown they have a pan at garden ridge that is a giant number 1!
then you just write happy 1st birthday and her name

something particular to her (i.e. our daughter's first word (for an object) was "ball" so we're making a cake decorated like her favorite ball; our son's 2nd birthday was the first we knew of that he couldn't have an actual cake (food allergies/intolerances) so we went with fruits he loved. Bananas were an obvious link to curious george...)

I have found that nobody cares about it but the mother, so do something cute. I like the polka dots idea. Mine is only 9 1/2 months old and people are already making fun of me for planning her party already. I completely understand wanting to make it special, but I've discovered, the simpler, the better. It puts less stress on you, and the baby.

We did our daughters cake with the number 1 they decorated anyway you want. I was a was a little worried, but it turned out so awesome.

You could get a Castle cake form and do a pink castle with brown detailing (alltho I also like the pink and brown 'present' idea).
Every little girl IS a princess you know!
You could do princess crowns....buy headbands and hot glue some tulleand fake flowers(daisies)to them.
You could make wands also or even cardboard swords.

For decorations and such, to keep cost down on the little stuff...check Dollar General or Family Dollar or my fave...The Dollar Tree.
I think the Dollar tree has more variety and sometimes you can find great stuff for favor bags...especially for the wee-kids.

What about a ladybug cake or a ladybug cupcake cake? I saw Wal-Mart has a cute Ladybug cupcake cake. You could still decorate with pink and brown napkins and brown plates if you want. You could do a birthday present cake or a little girl cake with a pink and brown outfit.

Do research on the internet, they have some neat cakes on the internet. We did a train cake we found on the internet last year for my 2 year olds birthday party. We made it ourselves and it was a lot of fun!

I do like the bear idea, we did a bear for our first birthday party. We used a bear mold cake pan and it wasn't too hard. My husband is an artist and he had fun doing the outlining of the bears paws, nose, eyes and ears. You could maybe add a pink bow to bear and the cake could be choclate brown?

Milk chocolate frosting decorated with pink trim, or big pink circles or large polka-dots with the number '1' candle in the center would be cute! I love the colors together, see them everywhere lately, there's a million things you could do! I'm sure it will be really cute :-)

We just had our twins 1st B-Day party yesterday, and we were thrilled with the quality our our cake from WalMart. It was also very inexpensive.

I immediately pictured a brown heart with pink polka dots, or a brown flower with pink detailing. Just some ideas - how fun to be planning the first birthday! My first (boy) is in December, and I'll need some ideas, too! Good luck!

The polka dots are way cute. Just thought I give you another idea. How about a cowgirl? A brown horse and a pink cowgirl hat. That puts a Texas twist on your party.

Well, we did cupcakes (in your choice of colors, icing, etc) with a lollipop stuck in top (again, choice of colors) with a little bow tied on the "stem." Looked like a little flower! I alternated the bow and sucker colors and I thought it turned out great! Also, the sm. size of the cupcake was perfect for DD - not too big, but large enough to make a wonderful 1st b-day mess for the camera!!
