My 5 yr. old daughter and I both have a pretty bad "cold". Mine started last Friday and her on Sun/Mon. She has been a bit warm off and on with sore throat and really runny nose. My concern is that she has a cluster of blisters below the right lower corner of her mouth. Not on her lips or in her mouth at all and two individual ones on other places on her face. No rash or blisters anywhere else. They are getting a bit crusty and look bad and hurt. What could this be.?? How concerned should I be??? HELP!!!! No other blisters anywhere else. We both had strep in March, but checked her throat and it looks fine. They are below her mouth, not in mouth, not on lips.

What can I do next?

I agree with the response saying it could be impetigo. I believe that is caused by strep. My son had hand foot and mouth, and I think it would be obvious spotting everywhere, not just her face. My son had lots of blisters on his hands and feet, a couple spots on his face, and some in his mouth. They didn't get crusty until after his fever broke (it was really high) and a few days had passed. I would take her in.

Are they inside her mouth? My guess would be hand foot and mouth disease. You do not have to have them in all the places for it to be that. Google some images and see if they look like yours. If thats what it is there is nothing you can do for them. You have to take tylenol and ride it out. Hope you two feel better soon!

If they are not on her lips, then I guess they are INSIDE her mouth? If they are blister-ish and began white looking, then it could be Thrush. Thrush can be contagious and needs an anitbiotic, and of course pain reliever (which I'm sure you've given her).

I would get her in........even if it's not Thrush it sounds like you might need extra help from her Dr.

It's probably too painful to rinse with warm salt water, or Listerine, but that will help clear up anything of discomfort.

Hope this helps a little........

It sounds like impetigo. It is a bacterial infection common in children and it is contagious. Your doctor can prescribe bactroban and it will help clear it up.

OMG! This is kinda weird to me? I have seen several other posts on here about the same thing and most mom's assume it is a cold sore....my son also had something like this in May and I thought it was a cold sore as well (I get them) he had a fever and a sore throat too! I know that the first time you have a breakout these symptoms can occur too....BUT... I was kinda thinking my boy had been exposed to chicken pox...he has had the vaccine but that doesn't mean he still couldn't get a mild case of them?

I just don't know? You should definitely talk w/ a DR. sounds to me like it is an outbreak of something...just don't know what...it's very weird tho...there were at least 3 other posts on here that I read since it happened to my son...they went away and he is fine now, just so you know, and I didn't take him to the Dr. b/c I really thought it was a cold sore...but I thought about taking him in if he hadn't gotten better so quickly! Oh yeah, his tongue was really red and all his taste buds were standing up at attention!

Can't wait to hear from others on here...

HAve her checked by the pediatrician asap before they are gone. It could be hand foot mouth disease but more likely it is herpes simplex type I or "cold sores". They often initially appear, and also flare up during, bouts of illness. Cold sore blisters initially leak a clear fluid that crusts over as they heal. THey are very painful. I am not sure what age you can begin taking acyclovir medication but it is immensely helpful in controlling and resolving an outbreak. Otherwise topical remedies are available over the counter to help soothe. Herpes is rather contagious and she will have to be taught not to share her cups etc. with others and how to not to touch or spread the blisters. HAnd washing is important to prevent spread. She most likely got it from a relative but you may never really know where she got it from. Could even have been another kid at school (who may or may not know he/she has it). I do believe there is a bloot test to determine definitively if she has herpes simplex type I, but drs rarely order it and usually diagnose based on clinical evaluation. Hope you both feel better soon.

If it is viral then you should try a lysine product to help with it. I knew a woman whose son got blisters whenever he got a fever. She tried "super lysine plus" and it subsided and everytime he got a fever if he took it he no longer got blisters. She go the liquid and put it in water. Not great tasting but he was happy to take it to not have the blisters anymore. Also make sure no sugar in the diet while you are trying to fight anything.

Does she have any blisters on her hands or feet? It could be coxsackie virus, or hand, foot, and mouth disease. It is viral and there is no real treatment other then Tylenol for fever and comfort. If it doesn't improve then I would get her checked out just to be safe. I know Strep throat was also going around, if that's the case that has to be treated.
