We would like to go camping with our 1 1/2 year old and 4 year old and I was wondering if anyone has suggestions on where to go camping that is within a few hours of here. We will be camping in a tent and would like a place that has some activities besides just hiking.

Lake Murray in OK is only about 1.5 hr from the Metroplex and has lots of activities--golf, tennis, horseback riding, canoeing, paddleboats, plus you can tent camp, RV camp w/ hookups, cabins w/ a/c & indoor bathrooms, or stay in the beautiful lodge. I've been several times over the years & it's a lot of fun. The water is very clear, as well.

Mineral Wells is nice, but we went to Lake Ray Roberts, Isle d' Bois (I think that was it) just north of Denton last year & really loved it. It is really beautiful. By one of the boating areas they have a nice little store & playground where you can rent canoes & kayaks, too. Very neat place!

This is more than a few hours (more like 4 1/2), but to me it was well worth the drive. The Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro, Arkansas, was a perfect family campground. Your kids are a bit young to do the "digging for diamonds" that people go there for (though they might enjoy digging in the dirt for a bit!), but there was a lot to do. There is a little water park right on site, where we spent almost an entire day and had a blast. The tent sites are smoothed down, and the restrooms are close by no matter where you are. It was quiet at night, and family-oriented. I'm not really much of a camper, but this place was great.

Have fun!
