I used to take a summer camp group to the Indiana Dunes for camping. They have great family friendly facilities and it's not to far of a drive.
I am looking for a good campling site for our family (3 young children (6,3,3). Hopefully something with playgrounds, trails, maybe swimming (beach) in either Illinois or Wis.
Thanks!

We love Duck Creek Campground in Pardeeville, WI. They have events every weekend of the summer. There is a swimming pond, that is also available for kids to fish in. The swimming pond has big inflatable things to climb on and a sandy beach to play. There is a nature trail that I think is 3 miles long. There are tent/rv sites as well as cabins to rent. They have a restaurant that is open on the weekend, an arcade room, a playground, and one of the weekends they do a "hayless hayride"....we did that one last year and the kids loved it. Judy is the woman who owns it with her husband. They are super friendly and give discounts if you stay a certain number of nights. Judy's kids and grandkids stay a lot, too, over the summer....which makes the place feel so much more family-oriented. Everyone is very nice, and we like it a lot for our 4, 3, and 2 yr olds. It's also close enough to drive into town, if you want to eat out or see their little shops. Sorry that was a lot of info...just wanted to cover everything. :)
We enjoy Illinois Beach state park in Zion, IL. It is part of the Illinois state park system. There is a hiking trail through woods and the dune area - trail goes near the lake too. Very long beach along lake Michigan. 2 modern restrooms, playground and a nice town nearby.
Well it depends on how far you want to drive. The Jellystone Parks(there is on in Wisconsin about 30 minutes from the border) are very family friendly. Tons of stuff for kids. But ususally not a lot of stuff around them to do. If you want to make the drive Door County has TONS of campgrounds, that have family stuff to do and Door County itself has hiking, shopping, golf, minigolf,etc...Devils Lake in Wisconsin is also very nice. There is a campground called Sky High Campground up there that has pool, playground, minigolf,,, and then Devils Lake is so great to hike around and swim in. The also rent paddle boats and kayaks. I know if you google Wisconsin Camping there is a website that has a ton of them listed with links to each website. That is another good thing, is that most campgrounds now have websites to get info and pictures.
Good Luck!!!
If want close by, we often go to Mallard Bend in Sheridan, IL. They have a small swimming pond, that also has frogs that the kids like to catch. They also have a swimming pool. It's not far from Yorkville, so we go canoeing out of Yorkville. There is also a playground. Clean and well-run. http://www.mallardbend.com/
If you want further away, we like Bass Lake Campground, near Wisconsin Dells. Again., well-run, clean. Pool, small beach, hiking trails, playground. http://www.basslakecampground.com/
If you want to go into Indiana, we love Turkey Run State Park. Very cool hiking. You can go tubing or canoeing in the river. http://www.turkeyrunstatepark.com/
We love Indian Trails Campground in Pardeeville, WI
Thanks for posting. I was interested in hearing about other places too. :) We have been going to Sunrise for the past couple of years and love it...it's cheap, quiet, clean and the food is yummy. There is swimming, free paddle boats, canoes, a nice park, lots of room for the kids and kids activities throughout the day. The Friday night fish fry is something that you won't want to miss! OMG. My mouth is drooling thinking about it. :)
Jellystone Yogi Bear park which is really close to you in Aurora.
Devils Lake near Baraboo, WI is a beautiful area. Nice beach and hiking trails.
