Can Anyone Recommend a Good Birth Control Pill Brand?

I know all our bodies are different and what works for one might not work for another, but I wondered if anyone has recommendations. I was on some generic ortho tri cyclen for several years when I first got married and had no problems. Now I just got on ortho tri cyclen low and I am not loving it. I'm only on my second month and thought if I gave it a few months the side effects would go away. The first two weeks of both months I've been on it I have horrible morning sickness-like symptoms. I have a toddler to tend to and obviously don't want to suffer morning sickness symptoms unless I'm actually pregnant. I did do a couple tests just to be sure and they both came out negative. Any thoughts?

What can I do next?

Stop using the pill. I hated what I felt like on it. Since you have had a child, you can get an IUD. They are totally removeable if you want to get pregnant, etc. The only cost I had for it was the visit to see my OB/GYN. I got the Mirena and it works great. Hardly any bleeding. I only have to wear a pantyliner a few days a month. It is wonderful!!

after I had my second child I decided to go with the Mirena IUD. it lasts 5 years, or until you want your doctor to take it out. It slowly releases the hormones and makes your periods almost nonexistant. I've loved it because there's no more worrying about remembering to take any pills! Hope this helps.

Like you said, our bodies are all different! I became pregnant on the low dose Pill you are on! I never missed a pill and always took them at the same time and wasn't on any other medication! If this is making you feel like this, I would definitely talk to your doctor about switching you!

M.-- I got really sick from the first pill the doctor prescribed-- I think it was the one you're on. Then my doctor switched me to Loestrin, and the problem went away. Might be worth a try?

I was on birth control for 6 years and the 4 + brands I tried were all horrible. All of them came with some side effect ranging from acne, severe acne, spotting between periods, low sex drive, no sex drive, and impaired vision. I recently tried YAZ for my PMDD and the side effects caused me to go off of them after being on them for 13 days. I had daily headaches, insatiable appetite and nausea like you described. Everyone is different, and you are right what works for one does not work for all. Could you perhaps consider another form of hormone free birth control? Good luck in whatever you decide.

I had the same problem years back with the ortho tri-cyclen. I switched to a lower dose pill which helped but what I ended up with long term was Seasonale. The Seasonale is a 3 month pill where you get your period 4 times a year. My original thought was even if it made me sick like other pills it would only be the 4 times a year when I started a new pack but I never once had vomitting or nausea with the Seasonale and loved having my period only once every 13 weeks.

I had a lot of problems taking the pills for the same reason you do. I tried a few different ones until a new doctor recommended Alesse. The first couple of months I had a touch of your symptoms, but nothing even close to what I had with the Ortho. All I had to do was drink a Ginger Ale and I was fine. It has the lowest dose of estrogen, 20 mcgm. This website shows you the amounts and pills: http://www.wdxcyber.com/ncontr13.htm.

Good luck!

I use Yasmin now as well. When I was in college I used ortho cyclen and then decided to switch from that to the patch. The patch wasnt very effective for me and my son was born 10 months later ;) When I tried to go back to Ortho after he was born, I had the WORST headaches almost everyday. The Yasmin is working out much better.

I use Yasmin. Everything else either made me sick or REALLY moody. Yasmin doesn't do that to me.

I use the Nuva Ring and I'm amazingly satisfied. I just put it in, take it out three weeks later and then a week after that I put a new one in.
It's a little more expensive than the pill, but the not having to think about it aspect makes it worth it.

I work for a OGBYN office as a medical assistant. We tell all of our patients to give the brand of pill there currently sarting 3-4 months before they change. The sickness is the amount of hormones your recieving at the time. what worked for you then im sorry to say may not work for you now. give it another month or two before you change your pill.

Perhaps you could switch back to the dosage you were on before, since you had no problems for years with it?

M.,

Talk to your doctor about Loestrin 24. I love being on this one. The funny thing is I am not on it for a birth control, as my husband had a vasectomy 3 years ago. I am on it because of an endometrial problem. Anyway, with this pill; my periods come right on time and they only last 3 - 4 days. However, it took 4-5 months for the pill to really take effect. That was the only downside for me. But like you said every one is different. As with me it took that long to take effect and with other women I have heard of it taken only a month or two. But I do not have nearly the cramping or any of the other side effects related with other pills and believe me I have tried alot of them to get my problems under control.

Good luck.

Dont do the patch if this makes you sick. I tried the same thing your one and had the same reaction. The patch made me itch like crazy. I had Strong PMS, in a fog the first few days of my period (people said i looked like death) and barely ate due to nausea. So i used Yasmin for years. If you are not like me try Mirena. That was my next idea. No pill to take and good reviews. My doctors highly recommend it and its good for 5 yrs. It can be taken out anytime during that time and you had to have one child prior to trying.

Hi, good morning and Happy Monday! I used Yaz for almost 3 years. I didn't have a problem with the pills until almost the end. Everything went well until two years ago. My period started getting lighter and lighter until i almost had no period at all. I started feeling sick to my stomach and i thought i was pregnant. I actually was not pregnant but was feeling the effects of Yaz. I have a lot of friends that are on Yaz and have had no problems at all with it. Like you said earlier, everyone's body is different but i would recommend it in a heartbeat.
