Can Anyone Recommend a Good Potty Chair?

I bought a potty chair at Target (and yes it was a little on the cheap side) but it is terrible. When my son has attempted to sit on the potty it leaves a giant red ring on his butt. Also, it is clearly not designed for boys even though there was a little boy on the box. There is no cup to prevent him from spraying the bathroom. I am just wondering what has worked well for others that is not outrageously expensive. Thanks!

When my daugther was potty training I had a chair that made music when they went. The music made it fun for her because she felt like she had accomplished something. I don't remember what it was called however. It had a cup for a little boy and even came with a potty book that fits on the back of the chair. The book told a story about how the potty was magical and would sing music when a child went on it. It was pretty cute.

I dont know about other folks but I had this great little horse that sat on the big potty. It looked like a horse but the ring fit inside the regular toilet seat and the horses neck had the guard that you are talking about to keep him from spraying the bathroom. It was 40$ but worth it. I got it at Walmart and I have no idea if they still carrry them because my boys are older now. Also, just a suggestion but lots of kids are afraid of the big potty so one of those rings that you can put inside the seat of the big potty (those come with the guard cup) are great because if kids are scared of the big potty then it is like potty training all over again. When it comes time to teach him to stand up a box of good old fashioned cheerios saved my life. Just throw a few in the water and have your little guy try and sink them. Aw I sure miss those days sometimes Good luck

I LOVE our Graco "Training Rewards Soft Seat and Stepstool". They were at Babies R Us for about $20, maybe $25. I too bought one at Target for our 2nd bathroom and it was so small my son would not have gotten anything IN it! I ended up returning it and went to BRU to buy a 2nd Graco. The neat thing is that the seat will fit on a regular toilet and you can use the rest of it, (with lid closed) as a step stool. My son is now 3 and he still uses it both ways, (as a whole unit or on the big toilet.) It does come with a soft shield but my son would rather push his thing down...much more comfortable! It comes with stickers that they can put on the inside of the lid too.

The best advice I got was . . . think washable! Some of these chairs have lots of parts and cracks and hinges that you don't even want to think about cleaning.

Baby Bjorn (yes the carrier people) make a small ONE PIECE! seat that's about $10 I think at Babies R Us but it was a little too short for my tall (& older) boy to sit comfortably so we got their bigger model (maybe $20?) that has a taller seat and a bowl insert that you take out to clean. Very easy!

Some kids freak out about potty seats though. . . but if you go straight to the big potty you have to be aware that it is sometimes hard to have a bm if their feet can't touch the ground.

I hated all the potty chairs. My four boys all learned to stand on a stool and aim. I have other friends that have trained boys to sit. If he's big enough, he can sit and just push his little part down below the toilet lid without a potty seat.
