Can Someone Recommend a Walker?

Hi Kristy!
I *LOVE* the walker my son uses! It has been SO DURABLE! (I have fallen and landed on it....twice, with my son in my arms, and has gone right back to perfect each time!) It's made by Kolcraft, and the cool thing is that it doubles as not only a walker they can sit in, but, you can reconfigure it so your child can stand behind and push it! It has music, a steering wheel, the musical part is removeable, and reveals a place where you can put crackers or fresh pieces of fruit (or whatever!). It's called the Tiny Steps 2 N 1 Walker. We bought ours at BabysRus....my son weighs 27 lbs and STILL loves chilling in there, even though he walks! Good luck!

BTW, this walker is STURDY, my little dude NEVER tipped it over.

We also had the Bumbo (he out grew it months ago) and it's a great item, but not (in my opinion!) as a replacement for a walker. More as a replacement for a high chair, or something to that effect. It lacks any toys, but, has a very high resale value on eBay. (Our Bumbo cost $40 new, and I sold it used on eBay for $36!)

As Kristen pointed out, walkers are no longer a good idea. They have banned manufacturers from selling them in Canada. I believe they are harder to come by here now as well. My DD never had an exesaucer. Instead she used her Bumbo and sat on the floor with toys. Due to the lightweight nature of the Bumbo, you can place it in many flat places. It will even serve as a feeding chair in a pinch! If you don't already own one, I would suggest this as a good purchase for traveling. My Mom "borrowed" one while we went up for a visit when DD was 5.5 months old.

I must say there are faults with alot of items out there for our children... If you have the time, allow Banyan to "test out" the walkers or stationary entertainment.. Pull them off the self and play with them in the store.. not only will it help you choose the one you feel is "safe" it also allows Banyan to show you which one he likes.. I've used a walker and feel it allowed them to strenghten their legs and back.. with any item, they must be supervised.

I actually read in a bunch of places that walkers aren't recommended for a few reasons. First, safety obviously because they can tip over or fall down stairs- but also for developmental reasons- supposedly they can actually delay walking.

But, since we really wanted something like a walker, we bought the Intellitainer and my daughter LOVED it. It actually has 2 sides of toys- the seat swivels and they can also walk back and forth in it. There are several "stationary entertainers" that are really great. I recommend the Intellitainer all the way!
