Can Too Much Pediasure Cause Gas?

I've given my 19 month old son Pediasure. I usually give him 4 oz per day, mixed with milk before he goes to bed. His dad, on the other hand, gives him a whole bottle of Pediasure, and sometimes 2 when he keeps him. I'm wondering if it is possible to give a child too much Pediasure, and if so, how will I know? The last time he came back home from his dad's, he had had 2 bottles of Pediasure, and seemed to have a lot of gas and possible stomach pain. He was screaming, uncontrollably, for hours when he was awake. Something was wrong, but the only thing I could think of was the large amount of Pediasure. Has anyone noticed this affect on their child? I am going to ask the doctor, but I just wondered if anyone had a similar experience with Pediasure?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

My son is fine now. He has never had a problem with dairy products, so I don't think he is lactose intolerant. We just try to give him Mylecon whenever he has a lot of milk or Pediasure. His father and I agree that from now on, he should be limited to 8oz a day of Pediasure, and given to him half and half with milk. He has had no issues since. Thanks to all for your responses and suggestions. Happy Holidays!

My boys were sick this past week, and the doctor told me to be sure and give them plenty of Pedialyte...apparently they can have up to a liter a day. Something else must be hurting his tummy. =(

Hello,

I know with my girls get a little constipated with just plain pedisure but if i mix half milk/half pedisure they are usually fine. They have been drinking pedisure for a couple of years now, they do not like just regular milk.

It could be anything that he ate or drank while at dads. My son had medical issues so all that he drank was Pediasure (4-6 bottles a day) when he was small. He never had any issues with gas. So if he does not have a problem with milk and milk products that amount of pediasure should be fine.

It sounds like your child may be lactose intolerant and yes, you can get too many Vitamins which can cause gas!
