My son is a sophomore at Bowie hs here in Arlington tx and we have had a tragedy happen. A dear friend of my sons and a top wrestler for bowie hs drown at a wrestling camp Monday evening. He was just 15 and a sweetheart and I am absolutely devastated for his poor mama. I have never in the almost 16 yrs with my angel have ever seen him flat out bawl and he has been inconsolable. My heart aches fir his broken heart as well as this dear child's family. So, before you go to bed please pray for us all. Also, please remember, no matter what the age or the skill please make sure y'all are always protected near water.

I knew I could count on my girls! It is horrible and I just don't even know what to do. My sons best friends older brother is the one that kept diving down to find him and he finally got him out of the water. It had been 10 mins already though and all those brave boys still administered cpr until the ambulance got there. The young man that risked his life searching for him is not doing very well. These are wonderful boys and a great school. There will be a candle light vigil tomorrow evening at bowie hs if anyone is local. Gosh I love my son, I just can't and wont imagine this.

That is really sad, and I will definitely say an extra prayer tonight. I have known far too many people who have died in their adolescence and early adulthood. It is truly crushing for the families. His family is going to need a ton of support in the coming days, weeks, months and years.

Grief such as this will impact your son for the rest of his life. Please encourage him to work with the counselors which the school will be providing. (I hope.)
A few years ago, our H.S. Band was headed to 6 Flags. 2 buses, both in a life-altering accident.....ending in 2 deaths. Through federal grants, we had a counselor in place for the entire school year & beyond.
What most people don't think about....is how much a loss, such as this, can impact throughout the entire school year. I know with our Band, it was so hard for those kids to get back on the bus for marching season. I know with each milestone & achievement....throughout that entire school year.....those kids & their families suffered. From August when the accident occurred....all the way thru to graduation.
Please, please be very aware of what an impact this will make. Even now, just <2 years later, I have tears rolling down my face.....just thinking about what those kids went thru & the courage they found within.
I pray your community, especially your son, will find the strength to carry on.

I'm in Plano and I saw this devastating news report and just sat down and cried.
I can't imagine the loss for your community. This young boy was an inspiration to so many and a good kid.
We don't understand why things like this happen. My daughter ( now 17) lost her best friend at age 4 and it is so hard to go through . We were all friends.
Ive already said a silent prayer for this family when I saw the report. I'll also keep your family in my thoughts as well. Bless your son for trying to help his friend. I am truly sorry you are all going through this right now.

I am a teacher and Bowie, and although I did not personally know Byron, I know that the Bowie family will miss him. My heart goes out to not only his family, but the families of his friends. Just let your son cry his heart out. The more he talks about his friend (to you or to his friends) the sooner the healing process will begin. (I lost a son 8 years ago and I understand to some degree the pain of losing someone close and not understanding the reason for it). I will lift up his family and yours in my prayers.

Oh, how sad! My husband & I both graduated from Bowie High School. We will both keep this pool child's family in our prayers, and we will ask God to wrap his arms around your son and give him comfort. Such a tragedy when a young life is taken. :(
