Can You Beleive It?

Today is my actual Midwife approved due date AND I AM STILL PREGNANT!!! OMGOODNESS!! When is this baby going to say he's ready and get out?!?! ACK!!!

I've been 80% + effaced for 2 weeks now, and been at 3cm dilated. Baby's been engaged in the pelvis at 0 station for 2 weeks... what is taking this baby so long?!?!

If I don't have active labor by Monday, I'm going to take the Blue and Black Cohosh tincture - which should help if my body is ready... if it's REALLY not ready yet, it won't do anything. Seems like a win win for me.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Midwife said she'll try to strip the membranes if I am still pregnant Thursday... but I'm severely afraid of that. I've mentioned before I'm an abuse survivor and even regular pap smears send me into a hysterical panic attack. I really think the baby giving me pain on the way OUT will be more manageable for me than someone invading my body to give me pain vaginally would. This is another reason I love Midwives... they only internally check you at the bare minimum (which is not often and only during certain times of labor) or if you ask.

Funny you mention Virgos LOL I'm Aug 25th... my daughter is also a Virgo @ Sept 3rd... so I was hoping for July, Aug Sept kinda thing *big smiles*

Hang in there! It won't be long now.

Can you get a pregnancy massage? There is a place along the ankle that if you stimulate that area, you'll go into labor - or so they say. Didn't work for me, but the massage itself was wonderful.

Just thinking about you yesterday and praying for you. So glad for the update. I so remember how hard it was to wait. My babies were all 7-10 days post due date. My dad always jokingly told me to to, "Relax, babies are less work while inside than once they come out." It didn't help, but I knew he was speaking truth since I have 6 siblings. Best wishes for a healthy newborn and a safe delivery.

What was it Miracle Max said- "If you try to rush a miracle, you get lousy miracles." My first was born at 42w5d, my second at 40w5d, and I'll be 40w on Tuesday. I'd skip the cohoshes and stick with tincture of time, myself.

Take it easy and focus on being comfortable and relaxed. I think I'm making time for a pedicure next week, so I can labor with pretty toes. If you're up to it, it's a good time to get frisky with your DH, too!

Happy birthing! No matter how you look at it, you're definitely in the short game now.

Good luck! Perfection takes time. Let that little one stay in there and perfect for as long as he/she needs to. Probably the last thing you would ever want to hear, but I was born a month past my due date! My poor mom! Anyway, it will be worth the wait when your new baby arrives healthy and beautiful. Do keep us posted if you feel up to it!

Well, funny story ... I was two weeks late, my mom had to do a c-section because although everything else was done, when they did the sonogram to check on my status I had my arms and legs crossed and was not comming out until I was forced to. Who knows you may have a stubborn one too.

Okay. Confession:

When you posted last about 3cm & 80% effaced and asking for a betting pool... my first reaction was 2 weeks from now on Tuesday. ((Which I *think* means the 9th)). But having been on the "When???" end myself, I kept my mouth shut.

Blame the Virgos. They just tend to be cautious people in general.

Hi,

I am so suprised you are still preggers! I was thinking about you a few days ago wondering if you had your baby yet--- Anyways, I hope that you are able to have your baby soon!!! Some things that helped me get my labor going was:

SEX....lots of sex
walking, uphill, downhill--fresh air
cleaning-deep cleaning baseboards and around the floors
get a massage--especially foot massage--there are certain pressure points on the toes and feet that can stimulate labor.

Best wishes and let us know when the big day comes!!!

M

Your due date is only an estimte. My 1st was 10 days after my due date, and that's only because I was induced and had gestational diabetes. My 2nd was 5 days past her due date. The baby will come when she's ready.

i was always told that the black and blue cohosh's could cause severe medical complications in both mother and baby, i know you wont believe it, but better safe than sorry......and please dont listen to the woman who told you to drink a glass of wine, i mean really why would we want to poison our unborn babies??!!! Good luck and i hope you get the birth you wanted.

**edit**
Side Effects

Scientific studies and natural medicine textbooks report that black cohosh is well tolerated by most people for up to six months. The most common side effect are thought to be mild, such as stomach discomfort and rashes, which occur infrequently. Possible side effects include headaches, dizziness, seizures, nausea, vomiting, sweating, constipation, low blood pressure, slow heartbeats, weight gain, loss of bone mass (leading to osteoporosis) and liver damage. Because black cohosh is believed to have estrogen-like properties, it should be avoided by people with estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer, a family history of breast cancer, ovarian cancer or endometrial cancer. In theory, black cohosh may increase the risk of bleeding, or it may increase the risk of blood clots caused by estrogen-like effects. You may need to stop taking black cohosh before surgery; discuss this with a health care professional.

Black cohosh should be used cautiously in patients with a history of blood clots or stroke, seizure disorder, known allergy to aspirin or salicylates, liver disease, or hormone-sensitive cancers or those taking medications for high blood pressure. Cases of liver damage and failure associated with black cohosh have been reported. Dysphoria and "heaviness in the legs" may occur.

Pregnancy And Breast-Feeding

Black cohosh is not recommended for pregnant women because its potential effects on the uterus may induce labor early. There is a report of damage to multiple organs in a child whose mother used black cohosh to induce labor.

Have you tried an enema yet, or is that out of fashion for stimulating labor? Ha ha I'm out of the labor loop. I accidentally ate too much broccoli/cheddar soup, vomited and went into labor within 24 hrs, but I wouldn't recommend that ;) Best of luck to you and your family.

Hey Pamela! I"ve been thinking of you all weekend. Don't worry about it - the due date is just a guess and is based on an average. 1/2 of all babies come before and 1/2 come after. You've got lots of time before this baby would go into the next school year (September 1st)/ Only due the blue and black cohosh tincture if your midwife is okay with it, alright! I went one week and 6 days past my due date. Hang in there!!!!

Oh, and the person who said no wine - my doula and OB told me when I wasn't sure if I was in labor or not that the best way to know is to have a 1/2 glass of wine, If you are still having contractions then it is real labor

CAREFUL WITH MEMBRANES SO THAT YOU DON'T END UP WITH BABY OP. COMMON BAD SIDE EFFECT FROM STRIPPING MEMBRANES AND IT HURTS LIKE HELL. as false labor (Braxton Hicks) will stop with 1/2 glass of wine.

Sending you good birthing vibes. C.
