I am having a candy bar for my daughter's 14th birthday party. I am going to have 14 jars of various candy for this party. I wanted to use apothecary jars...but they are wicked expensive just to use 1 time. I am in need of some ideas on what to use! I am on a wicked budget because I am probably going to end up having nearly 100 kids, teens and adults there! It is going to be a BBQ but food will be served from the inside. Thank you for your help!!!!

I have been to goodwill and salvation army to look for jars but haven't seen anything yet..the party is 7/28.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I am already using the crystal like looking serve-ware from the dollar store but I needed something taller and fatter, so I don't have to keep refilling 4 or more times for 75+ guests. I did in fact goto Michael's and found exactly what I needed in my price range so thank you for all of your help! I will post pics when I make it up!!

Red vines tubs look like old fashioned apothecary jars. You could buy a couple of those and cover the label with nice paper or soak the label off in water w/vinegar. You could keep one Red Vines and buy a couple more, use the red vines for decorations on tables and fill the tubs with other candy. A few other things come in similar plastic containers- animal crackers at Costco, etc. In a big group with 1-2 glass containers, no one will notice some plastic!!

What about using glass vases or candle holders? You can get those from Michaels pretty inexpensively. Maybe use your 40% coupon as often as you can in the mean time.

Then, I'd sell them for half price (or less) on CL after the party. You'll find someone wanting to buy stuff like this for weddings.

Also, have you looked on CL?

Is there a Garden Ridge in your area? Super-cheap glassware in all shapes and sizes.

Or a restaurant supply store?

I second the dollar store. They typically have tons of glassware and jars or other types of canisters to hold the candy that you can add decorations to to fit the theme.

the dollar store should have some type of glass sealing canister that you would normally use for sugar or flower.

Michaels - they always have 40% of one item. Get a few of the coupons together. Go with a few friends. Make a few trips.

These jars are 31oz. at just over a dollar a piece. Case of 12

If your area has a Dollar Tree store nearby, they have tons of plasticware/party ware that looks like "crystal" for $1 each. Bowls of all shapes/sizes.

Ask friends about jars. Yes, they can be rented also.. Vases with wide mouths are good. Make sure they are not too tall to reach into.. and it still looks good with bowls also.

I will tell you I have done lots of events with Candy Bars at them and the lids are just in the way.. Make sure you get scoops. nothing worse than seeing them with their hands down in there.

I would go buy dollar-store Tupperware, and print off cute labels, or cover them in fabric or something.

I agree with going to the dollar store. Look for plastic containers (even the food savers etc.)...be creative, you don't have to spend a ton of money.

I'm surprised you couldn't find anything at goodwill and SA -- we have Volunteers of America (also a thrift store) near us, and I go there all the time for stuff like this. An eclectic mix of glass jars would look great and usually things like that are 50 cents or less. Good luck!

I don't know if there is a christmas tree shop or old time pottery near you, but they both have jars really cheap.

Call the soup kitchens offer to volunteer, and also ask if they have large mayonaise and bulk pickle jars that you could have, bet they go through the bulk ones quick.

This is why God made dollar stores!
You can use bowls, baskets, gift bags, vases, shaped cake pans, etc.
They don't all have to be the same.
You could also try Ikea.
Good luck!

Don't know if you have these stores in your area but try these:
-Ross
-Dollar Store
-try every different thrift store in your areas
-garage sales
-call all of your friends and see if they have any fake crystal like bowls, apothecary vases
-any old flower vases (you know the kind that have been delivered to your
house & possibly kept them?)
-call a party planning store & see if you can rent them
-last resort, buy the pretty ones you've seen but buy the smallest ones. Use them then give them away as gifts for christmas?
