Car Nap Killing Real Naps

Hi mamas!

Well, I try everything to keep my daughter awake in the car. With their naps, I am very restricted as to what we can get done in the am or afternoon.
I try to head back within a reasonable time knowing they're at that tired moment.

Well, my son isn't so hard, if he falls asleep and I take him up to bed, he'll continue sleeping, but once my daughter (21months) has drifted, wether for 2 or 20 minutes, that is IT.
Today she stayed in her crib for 2 hours and would NOT sleep.

I try giving her snacks, rolling the window down, singing with her, if she's too tired it isn't going to work, she falls asleep in the car.

Is there a trick to getting them to sleep after a very short power nap or barely closing their eyes for a few mnts.

Is this common? Is there a way to make her understand she didn't sleep enough and needs to sleep further?

Thanks

What can I do next?

First of all hugs to you for having 2 babies 11 months apart....supermom to say the least.

I have found that my daughter is doing this more and more and I to am on strict nap schedule and try very hard to get back in time. Sometimes I am able to get her to her crib and others I just give in and park in the garage and take a nap with her in the car. No advice persay but you arent alone!!!!

Amy,

I am so sorry, but your post made me laugh out loud. Not for what you wrote, but because I have this same problem with my almost 10 month old. Two days ago we were headed home from grocery shopping - a ten minute drive and HARDLY what I'd call long enough to constitute a good length of naptime. So of course, sixty seconds into the trip home, I look back to see his big brown eyes getting heavy lidded. What do I do? I panic; "HEY SAM! WHADDYA KNOW! IT'S A TREE! HI TREE! WOWEE JUST LOOK AT THOSE CLOUDS!! HI CLOUDS!! WHOOOOWEE! THOSE ARE HIGH UP IN THE SKY!! I WONDER IF IT'S GONNA RAIN??? HEY A CAT!! STAY OVER THERE, CAT!! MEEOWWW!!" and so on and so forth.

So no. I am sorry. I have no advice. I got nothin'. Just sympathy. And if you see me driving down the street, try not to point and laugh at me, cause now you know that I'm not a crazy woman.

Good luck!
J.

Just be Thankful she sleeps at all. My first could and still does sleep with his eyes open. Just a little slit mind you but enough to throw you off. When he was two that is when my second son came along and so at this point I realize that not all babies sleep like my Matt. Yeah thanks to his brother who would take a two hour nap with his eyes fully closed. I found out that I was not a bad mother or not good at putting a child down for a nap, just a mother who had a first born who sleeps weird. In Fact if I got him to sleep while driving my car, I would look over and tell his father, well we drive until he wakes, and don't argue, just drive. Now today I can see what with Gas prices that would not be a good idea, but if you need a brake and you know once you stop the engine they will wake up, Just start taking out an extra 10.00 a week for just a occasion.
Good Luck and let me know if there is any Good Advice out there. God Bless. A. Pss I have found out that my oldest has a sleep disorder.

My daughter (2 years) does that too. A lot of times, we will leave her in her bed until she goes to sleep regardless of how long it takes. Some days she sleeps and others she doesn't. It's pretty normal. If you notice that they are sleeping in the car and are concerned that she will wake and not go back to sleep, you could try just going for a drive for a bit so she sleeps for at least a little longer than she would if you went directly home. IF they're tired, there's not much you can do to keep them awake, especially in the car.

God bless,
A.
