Car Sear Advice for a 10 Month Old

We have Britax Roundabouts, which I selected based on the Consumer Reports data of safety ratings and ease of install. We have one in each car, but will transfer for travel (plane, rental car) or another family member every so often. I've never had a problem installing it anywhere -- it goes in quick and tight. My mom bought a Cosco seat for her car since she lives in the same town as us and watches him more frequently and that thing is a pain to install and I never feel comfortable that it's in as tightly as it could be. She has the same model car as my SIL, so I know it's the carseat and not her car.

My suggestion is one of the Britax convertible seats. They will accomodate both larger and smaller kids and are easy to use.

i use a evenflo titan. i still have my son rear facing at 13 months and i dont have much trouble moving the seat at all

Britax Roundabout or Britax Marathon are gonna be good bets. I've had both and are by far the fastest,easiest to install and use. They both hold up well and my daughter favored these seats.

Your going to want to keep your little guy rearfacing til atleast 1 year old as that's the law but their is alot of evidence out there that shows it's even more beneficial to keep them rear facing til 2,3 years old now til around 30lbs.

It is the BEST baby product. It's a little "winch" that works on any seatbelt, so you can EASILY tighten in a carseat quickly and safely. You put the seatbelt through the carseat as you normally would and buckle it. Then you attach the Mighty Tite to the seatbelt by the door and pump the handle. In a couple of seconds your baby seat will be well secured. You can use any seat and it is fast and easy.

I have a Britax roundabout that I've used for both my kids. The LATCH connections are very easy to remove and attach. You just have to press in on a button to release them. I've used a different brand that you have to manually unhook from the LATCH bar and it is really a pain to get them off, so I would recommend looking at a Britax for an easy LATCH connection. It's also a very safe and highly rated brand of carseats!

I bought a evenflow triumph for my granddaughter for my car and we liked it so well that her parents bought one for their car also. It is easy to thread the belt through, easy to adjust the straps and it works from birth through 40 pounds. My granddaughter is 2 and half and 30 pounds and it is wonderful because you don't have to pull the seat out to adjust the straps for when she wears a heavy coat and we take it off later. It has a knob on the side that you turn to tighten or loosen the straps. Only thing I am not crazy about is the cup holder on it is very flimsy and cheap.

Does your car 'non-family' car have the LATCH system? If it has the LATCH system I have found that installing most car seats are easy and quick (about 5mins to put in & remove).

What I do is, I use one of those metal seat belt clips and I leave it on the belt when I remove the seat. Then when I want to put it back in, there is no adjustment needed. I still need another person to push down on the seat while I click the seat belt in but it is still so much easier that way. If you are riding with someone only once or twice however and can't leave a belt clip in their car, there is no easy way to get around the hassle of adjusting it because everyone's car is different. Even if someone has a car with the LATCH system, you would still need to adjust it because every car has different seat cushions

We recently ordered the Sunskine Kids Radian 65 for my husband's vehicle. It folds up when not in use, and can be stored in a bag, so I thought that would be convenient for the times it is not in his truck. It can be installed rear- and forward-facing.

We have a Britax Marathon that I can take out and install in another car in less than 5mins. However any car seat that you get used to installing can be done quickly and easily once you get a feel for it, and get used to it.

Just remember that your little one needs to remain rear facing until the bare minimum of 1yr AND 20lbs... the AAP recommends children remain rear facing to 2/30lbs.

EDITED TO ADD that someone above me recommended the MIGHTY TITE... you do NOT want to use this product. It has been known to fray the seatbelt and thats obviously not safe in a crash. I don't know WHY SUnshineKids still sells it... its a horrible product. Car seat belts all have locking devices on them, be it a retractable locking belt, locking latchplate, or you can use the locking clip that comes with your car seat. The Mighty Tite isn't safe.
