Hi,

I am in need of Career advice. I have been a stay-at-home-mom for 5 years and I feel that I need to get up to date with my career (Administrative Assistant). I don't know if I need to go back to school or just try to get a job with a 5 year gap in my resume. (So far no good jobs for me). I have an associate degree and several years of experience.

I would like to go back to school and take some classes or even start a new career, but everything is so expensive now that I couldn't afford paying for college again. What to do?

Any advice will be appreciated!

Thanks ladies. :-)

What can I do next?

Dear Alina,

Have you thought about going and asking a company do do a intern ship so that you can get back into the swing of things. You won't get paid as much as a non intern shiip job. But a lot of place are willing to work with people. Other wise you can meet with a counsler at a local college and tell them what you told us and they can guide you to the right direction.

HI Alina,
I too am a stay at home mom of my soon to be 6 year old son. I currently have my own Pampered Chef business which is a great way to remain a stay at home mom but still work some extra hours during the month and bring home a great pay check. Check out my website if you are interested in joining our company. www.pamperedchef.biz/L. They offer not only a commission check but additional promotions to earn FREE products! There is never any pressure to how many shows you have to do. There are months that I have 1 show and there are months where I have 10 shows. Good Luck with your decision!

Hi
Have you looked into a reputable temp agency?
Where I work, and a few other places that I know of have filled permanent, full-time positions with people that came in as Temps.
To me, you get a feel for the office/company, and the company gets to see if you will fit with them.
Also, if you think you need some skill updating, check your local community college and see if they have any courses or workshops that may fit your need. I took a single class on web design (Dreamweaver) that really helped fill in some skill gaps I had without committing to a whole degree or courseload.
Good luck,
J.

Hi Alina ,
I am stay at home mom as well . Right now I do daycare part time to help out with money . It sounds like you want to update yourself and your skills . You have two choices - either get a job that gives you the ability to be reimbursed for college courses or find something you can do part time to help pay for it yourself .

I recently started my own Avon Business . 10.00 to get started and you can tell friends and family via the internet with an avon website or you can pass out brochures . You can work this business around your family . I would be part of a great support team for you and I am by far not pushy . everyone has their own goals and needs . My goal is help with the bills and pay for extras for my three daughters .
If you are interested I can help you get started right away -

Have you thought about working for a Direct Selling Company? If so, have you heard of Scentsy "Authentic Wickless Candle"? Extremely safe w/ no wick, soot, lead, or flame. I would highly recommend starting a Scentsy Business! IT has been an amazing opportunity for my family and I.

Our warmers are heated by a 25-watt light bulb in a 2-piece warmer, our candle bars are made of a soft wax packed full of incredible scents. With a burn time of 60-80 hours per Scentsy bar (and sometimes more), over 80 scents to choose from, a wonderful selection of warmers, plus car candles and room sprays, there's something for everyone.

If you are considering a home business, this is a great opportunity for you to get in early with a company that has become a household name! Ask me about MY SPECIAL for anyone interested in BECOMING a Scentsy Consultant! THIS IS A GREAT TIME TO START YOUR SCENTSY BUSINESS since our New Spring & Summer Catalogs will be out soon.

Have a Scent-Sational Day!

Alina,

If you have an Associate's and experience, there are plenty of jobs in the area for an admin. asst., and they should pay pretty well for experience. If your computer skills are up-to-date, then I don't think it is necessary for additional classes or training. Your experience will come in handy. You should be able to have your Career Services office where you earned your degree review your resume. I worked full-time as a Career Advisor at a university until last year and we did that for alumni.

If you have any specific questions about your resume, just let me know and I'll try to help.
