I too was petrified of a catheder. I never even knew when they put it in at all. It wasn't uncomfortable at all. Don't worry . It's nothing. Have a great time at the "birthday party" tomorrow!
Yes, you will be numb and you won't feel it. When they take it out you will still be numb and may feel a little pressure, but no pain. Good luck and congratulations!!
I had a vaginal delivery and they put the cathader in after they gave me my epidural. I also had to have a cathader put in another time because of bladder infection and it didnt hurt that bad. But they will put it in after your numb since you wont beable to feel when you need to use the bathroom.
They put mine in before, but I had an emergency C-Section. It didn't hurt though, it was just a little uncomfortable.
I had 2 c-sections and they put my cath in after I was numb!
Congrats and best wishes!!!
oh yeah-don't worry about it.
it really isn't a big deal. Certainly nothing to stress over. You will only feel a tiny slight pinching feeling as the catheder touches your bladder. After my first baby my bladder did not work for 10 day. I actually learned to catheterize myself. I thought I would not be able to do it but you get real motivated when the only other option is to walk around with a permanent catheder and a leg bag.
Good wishes for a quick safe delivery. congratulations!
I JUST had this done, I think it was better since I was numb, because I didn't feel it then...and they had no problem...i truly don't remember them taking it out...
You won't feel a thing! And then it's great - you don't have to get up to use the bathroom. Sometimes wish I could have that during long car rides:-) I have heard some people feel like they have to go to the bathroom with the catheter in, but I didn't have that.
Good luck with your c-section. I was nervous too, but it was all great. Not much pain involved and as long as you stay on top of your meds after, not much pain there either. Recovery was fine, too. Good luck tomorrow and congrats!
Yes, they should wait until after your epidural for the cath and you won't feel anything. If, for some strange reason, they go to do the cath before you've had the epi just insist that they do it after the epidural.
They put mine in before I was numb, it hurt like crazy. Ask them to put it in after...
Hi,
CONGRATULATIONS!
I'll be really honest - I don't even REMEMBER them putting the catheter in - or taking it out.
Your body is sort of 'in gear' and ready to go. I would ask your Dr if they do it after they numb you, but I'm pretty sure they put mine in after the epidural (I also had a c-section, but it was not planned. AND it was 10 years ago, so not sure what has changed).
Have a super delivery!
The catheter will be just fine. Even if it does hurt or is uncomfortable it is only for a few moments. You're having a c-section and a baby tomorrow - the catheter will be a piece of cake compared to everything else :)
I've had catheters for different reasons in my lifetime (maybe 3 or 4 total) and one of them was during childbirth after my epidural. The others, I was wide awake for without any numbing agents...one was in the ER so they could do an early US without waiting for me to "drink and hold pee" and honestly, it did't hurt. It's not the most comfortable thing in the world...but for someone having a C-section...seriously...no big deal. Deep breath...don't worry.
They put mine in after. I didn't feel it when they put it in. You aren't numb when they pull it out but it really felt like nothing. This is one thing I can truly tell you not to worry about! It's easy peasy! Good luck!!
