My son is 18 months old. Has always been a pretty good sleeper, and easy to get to sleep. Until last week. He has been so fussy and crying at bedtime I don't know what to do. Just tonight he fussed for 2 hours! My mom and I took turns going in every 20 minutes or so to try to calm him, but nothing worked. Last night he had me awake from 2 am to 6 am!!! Ugg! Nothing seemed to make him happy! Someone told me to try chamomile tea. Is this okay? And how? flavored or straight? Thanks moms in advance for your help!

What can I do next?

I started using chamomile tea with a little honey with my daughter around that age. It really helped her calm down and settle in for the night. It CAN cause loose stools, so be aware of that.

Peppermint Tea might be an even better choice for you. He may be having an upset tummy due to teething or something. It will soothe and calm.

My mother-in-law wanted to give cham tea to my first born when she was having some stomach upset. Being a first time mother, I said I had to check with our pedi. The dr. said the cham is fine. We brewed it very weak, added more water to cool it down and about a 1/4 tsp of sugar. It did not magically alleviate the stomach trouble, but it did seem to help (also my daughter was about 6 months old, so no honey!) We have used cham tea with both of my kids, especially when they have stomach virus, vomiting and diarrhea. We have used that along with electrolyte solutions. Is your son teething? If he is cutting teeth, chamomile may help soothe him, but motrin and orajel would be even better. Good luck!

My doctor said no cham tea but my friend used it successfully.
I'd say check with your doctor first (it's probably fine).
Also, anything else making your normally good sleeper baby fussy?
Gas, tummy ache, teething, a cold?
Mine only does that when he gets a cold from his big sister.
When he is obviously miserable, I will give him some infant Tylenol or Motrin (off brand...not brand name since the recall).
Is he hungry? Would a bottle of warm milk or last minute breast feeding help?

Chamomile is TOTALLY safe for a baby or toddler:) You can even give it by bottle or syringe to an infant who is having sleep issues! You don't need to flavor it. Don't use peppermint, it's a stimulant. You want spearmint if you are going to use mint.
Also, have you tried teething remedies? He could be getting his molars.

I used Calming Chamomile drops found at a health food store. They can tell you how many is appropriate for your son's height and weight. I think I used 2 drops under the tongue. Talk about work great! At first my son didn't like the taste but after awhile, he would come looking for it when it was time to go to bed. When in doubt, check with the pediatrician to make sure it is not related to some other physical ailment.

This could also be related to a phase they go through at this point. Either way, this too shall pass. Good luck.

Yes you can give it to him just check the temperature of it first. I would sweeten it with some honey but that's just me. When my youngest had a really nasty cold once I was told to give him some and if you check the ingredients in hylands teething tabs or the teething drops by gentle naturals they both contain chamomile.

I personally prefer peppermint tea but I've used chamomile as well in moderation and it was fine.

I have read that babies and children should not drink chamomile tea. I don't know if this is why but my mother, who had a heart condition was told to not drink chamomile tea because it affects the heart. Do call your pediatrician before giving it to him.

I've seen homeopathic sleep aids in the health food section of Fred Meyer.
