Changing a Poopy Diaper on a Plane

My husband, 16 month old daughter (in July) and I will be traveling by plane in a couple months. Our previous flights have only been for about an hour so we have managed to escape a poopy diaper on the plane. Our next flight will be for about 4 hours. I'm just wondering the best way to change and get rid of the poopy diaper while we're on the plane. I don't think there's enough room in the plane's bathroom. Do you guys have any suggestions?

You can ask the stewardess for a place. I had to use the back of the plane on the floor by her seat. (Use a disposable changing pad.) I double bagged it and put it in the trash. They were able to send it straight below so that the smell did not bother anyone. I also brought a small can of room freshener just in case, non-scented Air Wick???

what i do with my daughter is lay her down on the floor either at the front of the plane or in the rear and change her there. we will also be traveling in june (a 7 hour flight) and she will be 15months for that.

I second the changing while standing. That is what we did when we took our kids on long flights (6 hours - 10 hours).

I had to change a diaper on a plane once, it was quite a while ago, though, so i am not sure if it was a poopy one or not, but i do remember that there was barley enough room in the plane bathroom to do it. but i would suggest changing just before you board the plane, and if you have to change while on the plane bring a plastic zip top bag, then you, and other passangers, won't have to smell the diaper for the rest of the flight.

Hi that can be a bit tricky, but you'll be fine, as another mom mentiond, there is alwysa a changing table (not the typical ones your probaly used to seeing in Public RR) but there will be one. I travel quite frequently and for very long flights (we have to fly everywehre being in Hawaii) and often by myself with my two boys and have always been able to get this done with no worries w/in the confines of a lavatory (w/long flights changing a diaper is the least of my worries) make sure you have plenty of snacks, and maybe a portable DVD player to distract with, you'll be grateful you did, not to mention the other passengers :) Good luck!

Before you go, practice changing your daughter while she stands. That's how I did our son and daughter when we flew. It sounds weird but is possible and the esiest way to change in tight quarters. The people on the plane will thank you for not doing it in the chairs next to them.

We've flown to Hawaii and back several times (5 hour flights) and there are changing stations in the bathroom. They're small, but it'll work. It usually flips out over the toilet. If you have someone with you, it helps if you can pass your child to someone when you're done since it's a tight area. Hope this helps!

Hi
I have done this several times too. I would also recommend that you take some plastic ziploc bags to put used diapers in. It helps with the smell and Im sure the other passengers would appreciate it.
Good luck

I have traveled a lot with my children and yes they do poop on the plane. I have taken them to the batroom and chenged them on my lap. It is a little tricky, but you do not have to worry about putting them on the toliet or floor or any other surface. This also works well in public restrooms that do not have changing tables. I leave the diaper in the trash in the bathroom. You could take a zip lock and put it in there first so you won't continue to smell for the entire trip.
Good luck!

There is at least one bathroom on the plane that will have a changing table that comes down over the toilet. Just bring extra plastic bags (you know the kind you get for produce at the market) to put the soiled diaper in and make sure it's tied closed.
Safe travels.
