My husband still has 3 years of school left, so we will be in the Dallas area for a while, but we like to talk about different places we like would like to move after graduation. One place that I think sounds wonderful is Chapel Hill, NC. Proximity to the mountains and beach is great. The weather sounds nice and I love the fact that there are so many universities close by. Is it as nice as I have been reading? If you have lived there (or close by) can you tell me about your likes and dislikes? How are the schools (both public and private)? What is the humidity like? I read somewhere that the average high in summer is 89....really?

What can I do next?

we are about 30 min away from CH....yep proximity to the mountains and the beach is great. It's a busy place with lots of things to do. Hardly if ever snows during the winter, VERY HOT with high humidity from May to Sept (this week it around 100 every day). We lived in NY, Nothern VA and sorry to say this place is not my favorite. It's ok, but heat is a torture.

We live about 45 minutes from Chapel Hill. Have to agree with Lena that it is much hotter than 89 most days in the summer. Not to say that it doesn't happen, but we have been having heat indexes of about 110 for the past two weeks. Normal is quite hot and VERY humid. Some days I honestly think I could go swimming in it! ;)

Chapel Hill is a very nice area. Good schools, well-maintained, but it is pretty pricey to live there. It is also a college town in every sense of the word, so if you like that, Chapel Hill will be for you, otherwise, you may want to look at other areas of the Triangle.

I'm glad you asked this now in the middle of summer (my least favorite time of year down here), otherwise I may have said "ahh the heat isn't that bad"...it really is overwhelming though! Hope this helped!

We just moved out of NC, closer to the coast though. I loved it there. Chapel Hill is definitely college town and pricey, like the other poster said. THere is so much to do in Raleigh and Durham, I think you'll like it.
And it is HOT!!!
