We were invited to a dual family birthday party. One child- we are close to the parents. the cousin is a boy turning 13, we are NOT at all close to him or his mom, We don't exchange holiday cards, and we did not get an acknowledgement when our kids were born!! Since it's a dual party I am giving the one a nice gift, but what can I do for a boy we don't know and his parents that we don't communicate with. It's not his fault, but at the same time $ is tight. Help please! Last time I saw the boy he was like 7 or 8, I heard he's a bit quiet, not into sports etc..

What can I do next?

I would do what I always do in this situation. And kids like it from 5 years old to college age. Go to blockbuster. Get one of those popcorn bucket things (like they have at the movie theater) put a couple 20oz bottles of pop, a couple of the big candy things and a $5 gift card to blockbuster. You can put some tissue paper in to foof it up and then cover it with a gift bag. if you get the gift bag and candy at the dollar store your in like $12 for a great gift. kids love gift cards but this goes a step further and its the whole deal. something to do on a weekend night. they can use it for a game or a movie. you can make the card for more if you want to. My kids are in college and this is still the gift they love to give as everyone loves them good luck. hope you have a fun time.

How about a gift card? Borders would be a good bet. If he is quiet he probably either likes music, movies, or books, all of which they sell there! OR he could buy a book about a hobby he has or just get magazines or they even have some art supplies in the Paperchase section.

Good Luck!

I agree with the gift card thing. you could chose best buy, dick's sporting goods, toyrus, target anything. I would do $10 or $15. nothing more.

Gamestop gift card, Target gift card, Sport's authority gift card or I-Tunes gift card (you may not be able to get a $10 denomination on this unless you go to the Apple store)

$10 theatre gift certificate (from his local theatre) and a $1.00 theatre-box of candy. My kids would love this!

A gift bag with some snacks in it - you can stretch the $10 by putting a big bag of doritos/chips/cheetos? theatre box of candy, special drink - gatorade-type or special pop and special kind of gum (love that "Wrigley's 5 - flare").

I would go with the other suggestions, an inxpensive gift card. Honestly, when you do dual partied like that, his name should have never been on your invitation. Ive been invited to a few, and the other cousin was not on there. I did not know that it was a dual party, and noone expected two presents. So you getting him anything is a really nice!!

If you don't know him I'd go with a $10 Target gift card. I don't think you should be obligated to give him more than a token gift. Usually when there are dual birthday parties you only bring a gift for the kid you know. It's nice of you to think of the cousin!

I'd go with the Blockbuster gift card. Boys like to rent video games.
