Cheap Vacuum for Hardwood Floors

I already own a vacuum that works just fine for carpets, but it doesn't do anything for hard floors (in fact, I would say it makes things worse by spraying the dust and dirt everywhere) so I would like to spend less than $100 to get one just for my hardwoods. I've gone from having hardwoods in the front-hall to having hardwoods throughout the main floor, so it would be much easier for me to clean up if I had a vacuum. Something lightweight and easy to store would be nice, too. Any recommendations?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone! After reading various reviews, I went out and bought the Dirt Devil Versa stick vac from Home Depot ($19.99) and I LOVE it. Exactly what I wanted! ^_^

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Electrolux ergorapido ultra. You can get it for around $90 at Costco. Should still be under $100 anywhere else.

It is cordless, and it is the best cordless vacuum I have ever owned. I have owned many.

You can remove the handheld unit to clean the couch cushions or other hard-to-reach places. The dust cup is easy to clean. And it even picks up small crumbs on the carpet. I have never had a problem with the battery life like I did with Shark and Oreck.

I have had mine for probably close to a year now. I would buy it again in a heartbeat. Good luck to you!

What about a floor attachment for your current vacuum? Granted, I realize that not all vacuums have these, but I know I was able to find one for my Kenmore bagless upright. Made a world of difference.

Here's an example of what I'm talking about. http://www.ezvacuum.com/kenmore-canister-vacuum-bare-surf...

That way you just have a new attachment for your current vacuum and don't have to have a second vacuum.

We just bought one - it's a combo hardwood vacuum AND mop! Love it - very easy to use.

Don't know the brand name - i want to say hoover. (just a sec, I'll try to google it for you). The vacuum part works great, but then you fill a little quart water holder and it works similar to a steam cleaner. It doesn't heat the water or anything, but you pull a trigger and it sprays a little water and in "mop" mode the circular "brushes" act as mops and voila - sparkling clean floor!

I'm still going to get the Scooba (robot mop from makers of Roomba), but that's just me.

Oh, and we've owned two Sharks - both broke. One within a year the second within a few months.

I use the Oreck hand held vacuum on my hardwood floors and stairs. It has a strap I sling over my shoulder and is very light weight and easy to use.

look into a small canister vacuum or a stick vacuum. Don't buy anything without a cord, it won't be powerful enough. I have a Sanitaire Electrolux Commercial hard surface canister vac. It was about 100 bucks and its a good vacuum.
