I normally get my prescriptions filled at Walgreens because it is close to my house. I have tried Walmart but that's across town and the lines are long(like Shopko). What are some cheaper places to get them filled?

What can I do next?

You can also try Costco. I have been there and usually at these kind of stores prescriptions are a lot cheaper and u don't have to have a Costco card or membership to get prescriptions.
You can also call the manufacturer of your prescription as they usually have programs that can give you what you need at a very low charge or no charge at all.
I hope that helps and good luck.

It's hard to answer. You need to see what you might be able to do online. I think the hardest thing is to sort out the real information from the advertising. So you might want to ask your doctor's office for a recommendation. And see if your health insurance company has anything good to offer.

While you're talking to your doctor's office, ask about generic drugs. Not needing a brand name can save you a lot of money - IF there is a generic equivalent.

When you look at cost, you're wise to add the amount of gas (as well as time) it takes you to pick up the prescription.

If you have an ongoing medication requirement, I suggest looking into direct shipments. We save quite a bit using this method for my husband's diabetic supplies. We get single shipments with 3-6 months worth of medication and only pay a single co-pay per shipment, per prescription. I believe ours is a subsidiary or Walgreens, but the cost is much less than filling at the pharmacy each month.

We typically don't have a lot of RX and we don't have any recurring RX. I personally stay away from the cheapest due to the fear of what I will really get.

When I did have a recurring RX that was over $100 a month, I got my Dr. to write the script for 3 month supply and I got it via my mail order pharmacy through my insurance company at a significant savings.

I know there are "prescription discount programs", though I have not personally participated. Wish I had this several weeks ago when I had to spend $95 on scripts with my insurance co-pay. I am under the impression you can still use with insurance, but not sure.

Last week I was in an office of oral surgeon and they had "pharmacy discount cards in the waiting room. It says you can save up to 75% on medications includes over 50,000 drugs at pharmacies nationwide.
This particular card is by "PDR" Physicians' Desk Reference, accepted at over 60,000 pharmacies. It says for more information or questions regarding your card, visit www.pdr.net/DiscountCard or call 1-###-###-####.

I received one from another company in the mail sometime back, but can't find it at the moment. Also I received a coupon that saves an average of $10 per prescription, with range of 0 to 60%.
Pharmacy/customer helpline 866-368-9807
www.simplesavingscard.com
Text Savings to 84484 to receive this same offer.

Also you can google "prescription discount programs" and find more information.

Like I say, I have never personally used them, but could certainly be worth looking into. Good luck! Let us know if it works out.

I switched from Walgreen's to a locally owned pharmacy and it was cheaper. Just call around and get prices!

Most box stores now offer reduced generic prescriptions. Walmart is $4 for 1 month, $10 for 3 months.

Target & KMart offer similar prices. I know KMart has a $10/year "member" fee to participate in the generic savings plan. The warehouses may also offer prescription services - Costco & Sam's club.

If you have stores similar in your area, such as a Shopko, Meijer, etc. you can check with them to see if they also have a generic plan.

I'm assuming of course that you are paying cash out for your medications, & not running it through drug insurance. If it goes through insurance, there won't be any change in price, as you pay what your plan charges, not the individual pharmacies.

Hope that helps! T. =-)
