maybe you could try one of those "Buggy Board" or "Seat2Go" attachments to your single stroller?
When I bought the Chicco travel system, I didn't even consider what would happen when I had a second child. I've read a lot about how the Baby Trend Sit n Stands fit "most" car seats, but many forum responses seem to say "except Chicco KeyFit." Argh! I love just popping the whole car seat into the stroller and not having to take the baby out. And, I don't really need a double stroller, per se, since my 2 year old barely sits in a stroller nowadays anyway. I'd just like the option for her to rest if needed. Also, I'm not too keen on the tandem strollers since I feel bad for the child who has to sit in the back :) Any insights would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Take your car seat to a place that has the stroller and give it a try. You'll know first hand. After that you can make a plan b. From what I know when we did this though, to have the car carrier in the seat has to be fully reclined so it makes it pretty impossible for your kid to sit in back anyway. I went into the store fully intended to buy a sit n stand and left with a tandem. The car carrier can go in either front or back as can the child w/o. Good Luck!
Why don't you take your car seat to the store and see if it fits into the Baby Trend stroller? It doesn't provide the option for the older one to sit, but they do make attachments that you can put on your regular stroller where she can stand. I saw it on the a Peg Perego stroller, you can see if they have one for Chicco. It's just a small black piece with wheels that you attach to the back of your stroller and she can stand on it.
I have the Chicco and ran into the same problem when looking for a double stroller. After extensive research and comparing the limited models that work with it, I ended up buying the Joovy Caboose Ultralight. I really like it...here are some points to consider:
- It's very easy to maneuver and get the car seat into
-It is a tandem stroller, BUT it's very compact...easier to maneuver than any other tandem stroller I tried or side by side for that matter. It's doesn't seem much bigger than a regular stroller.
- There isn't a whole lot of storage space -- cupholders etc., but it comes with a strap on pocket thingy that has worked just fine. Underneath you can fit a small diaper bag -- you don't need a huge one with a little baby and a toddler anyway... I am looking to get a hook to put on the handle so I can hang my purse on it.
- The seat the toddler sits on slides back and forth and when it's all the way back there isn't a whole lot of clearance for their head when the car seat is installed.
So, to me the biggest con is the comfort for the toddler. We've made it work the few times we've used it, though, and overall I like it.
My biggest thing was I didn't want to lug around something big and awkward to maneuver and this one is neither.
There are other options... I think the Baby Jogger City Select was compatible as well but I'm pretty sure you had to buy a separate attachment. I just didn't want to spend that kind of money on something I wasn't sure how much I was going to use. The only other option would be to buy a whole new travel system. I went with the cheapest option. ;)
Good luck with your new family!!
I had/have a chicco baby car seat and it fit in the Baby Trend Sit and Stand. I honestly didnt use the sit and stand that much - maybe 3 times. After I moved my son out of the baby car seat I now use 2 (seperate) Maclaren strollers - obviously I am always with someone else so its easy to manage. The sit n stand is hard to steer. Just my opinion - good luck.
