Is it possible to get the chivken pox if you've had the vaccine? My 14-month-old was vaccinated but now is covered in pink spots after spending time with my mother-in-law, who has shingles.

What can I do next?

If you read deep enough at the CDC http://www.cdc.gov/nip/diseases/shingles/faqs-disease-shi... shingles are a potential side effect, the vaccine causing another viral reaction. Shingles is worse than chicken pox and can have worse effects than scars.

I believe that after receiving the vacinne you can still get a mild case of chicken pox. However Shingles is contagious and painful. Do her spots seem to bother her? I've had shingles and it wasn't fun. Shingles tend to appear on nerve endings such as head, spine, face etc. I oddly enough had them on my bicep. My spots were pink and I actually thought I had poison ivy becuse they bubbled up and were filled with a fluid. Your doctor should be able to test for shingles. Good luck and I hope they go away soon.

It could be a side effect from the vaccine if she was recenly immunized with it.
If not, of course she can catch it, vaccines dont give 100% protection.

My daughter who is now 15 had the vaccine when she was small. At least at the time, the vaccination was not guaranteed to prevent chicken pox. My daughter did get Chicken Pox but she had a mild case.
