Did your doctor give you a paper about the vaccine, explaining the possible side effects & when to call the dr, etc.?

Some info from Better Health Channel http://www.betterhealthchannel.com.au/bhcv2/bhcarticles.n...

Possible side effects of the vaccine
All vaccines and medicines can have side effects; however, these are usually not serious. Side effects from the chickenpox vaccine may include:

* Redness, swelling or soreness at the injection site
* Mild temperature
* Mild chickenpox-like rash – this may develop five to 26 days after the immunisation.

If you are still concerned, call the doctor's office & ask. They are there to answer these questions :)

If you have not visited the doc yet, please do so, we thought my daughter was getting chicken pox and it turned out she was having an allergic reaction.

Bless you and your daughter, I was in the same position when my son came down with the c.p.'s at 4 months old after being exposed by his cousins. I suggest mittens for her hands, helps keep scratching and scars at a minimum, oatmeal baths often, NO ASPRIN-ONLY TYLENOL the doctor stressed this, and plenty of calimine lotion and loose clothing. Good luck, it's going to be a long two weeks!

The chicken pox vaccine is a live-attenuated vaccine. In rare instances, these types of vaccines can cause a mild form of the disease. A good source of info on vaccines and diseases is the cdc website (www.cdc.gov). You can look up a specific disease/condition. I would definitely call your pediatrician and let her know what's going on and ask her for any advice. If your child does have a mild form of chicken pox, it's possible for her to spread it to other children who have not been vaccinated.

My little girl did the same thing. She wasn't covered head to toe but she had quite a bit of bumps... more than I wanted to see anyway. I went through nursing school and my husband is psychologist and a nurse so let me see if I can explain how that works. They are actually putting the disease into your child. What happens is that her body will build immunities from that. It will last a life time. Now that is not 100% possitive. There still could be a possibility that her body won't build total immunities but it is very unlikely. Now when she goes to school or is around someone that has had chicken pox, she will be exposed and her body has already been exposed and already has immunities so it will immediately throw it out and she won't get it. This way, she is getting a little bit of it now and being 1 yr or 2 yr old, she won't remember any of it. If she was 6, she would itch and be miserable, probably scratch and possibly get a few scars from it ... this just gets it out of the way now without being as bad.
My little girl got a fever and didn't feel good for about a day or two... it didn't even take effect till 2 weeks after the shot.... she did have bumps but it didn't seem to bother her after the initial fever and not feeling good which only lasted a couple of days.
I hope this helps and this is what you wanted to know.
