I am currently 5 months and am currently stressing about finding care for my new born when he arrives. i will be taking the standard 6 weeks off ( wish it was longer) and I am unsure if its safe to leave a child of that age in the hands of another person. I currently live in the falls church, va area and dont know what to do. I conceplated becoming a stay at home mom for the first 6 monnths to a year, but i dont think i can afford it. Anyone know any affordable and reliable daycare/providers in the area. Currently work in Bethesda, MD so if there are any affordable and reliable daycares/providers in that area as well.

thanks,

What can I do next?

Hi H.,
I use abc family home care located in Falls Church. The owner and daycare provider is a wonderful lady. She has over 10 years experience in child care. She cared for my oldest who is now in preschool and now she is caring for my 1 year old. I also found out by coincidense that 1 of the moms at my daughters daycare used her before with her twin boys and is using her again with her 2 year old. The other mom and I are so happy and pleased with her that we have recommended her to another one of the moms at my oldest daycare and she too is now using her. Needless to say the 3 of us are absolutely in love with this woman and the way she cares for the children. She is state license so you can be more at ease. I understand your concern as child care is such a delicate thing to look for, but I wouldn't have it any other way if it wasn't for our provider. She has plenty of references besides us 3 moms so you can speak to them as well. If you are interested let me know and I will e-mail you her contact info.
Good luck!

Hi H. - I am actually a stay-at-home mom in Oakton, VA. I went through the same tough decision you are going through. Ultimately, my husband and I felt that with our savings, we could afford to have me stay at home. If you do return to work after 6 weeks, you may want to consider hiring an in-home nanny for a while. I've heard they are cheaper than day care, and your child would be in his normal home setting, which could make the transition very smooth. Hope this helps!

We also live in Falls Church and use Fun & Friends on Great Falls Street in McLean. My son went there for four years and my daughter is in her second year. They take babies as young as six weeks and then they can stay all the way up until they start Kindergarten. That was one of the things I liked about it.

Hi , I don't have any referals for you as I have not had to use daycare , but I understand how you feel. I live in Vienna VA and am a member of the Vienna mom's group , and I am sure there is a Falls Church mom's group or McLean , google it or look up www.bigtent.com , it is $25 for a years membership and worth every cent for things like this , it's always best to use a reccomendation for something , especially something like daycare/nanny/preschool etc. You can put a post on the site asking for referals.

Good Luck

Have you considered paying to join SitterCity.com? It's a monthly rate, but you could cancel as soon as you find someone you like. They have hundrends of nannies/sitters listed with references, background checks, photos, etc. I have used the site to find sitters and it's wonderful and very easy. Good luck! -R.

Hi H.,
My son goes to a great home-based daycare in Ballston, VA- right off of Wilson Blvd (not far from 7 Corners). She's on Wilson and N. Illinois St. She's licensed and very loving, I think 6 weeks is old enough. She has 5 kids of her own, ages 6 mo. to 22 years (all but the 6 mo old are in school). She's very affordable for the area, I'm not sure if she's raised her rates for new folks or not, but we pay $250/week for full-time- she's open from 7:30 am-6pm M-F. Her name is Ruth Rivero, and her number is ###-###-####.
Best of luck with the pregnancy!
L.
