Can anyone suggest a child friendly dentist in the Berkeley area? I've got an *almost* 4 year old who needs a check up and I'm not excited about our current family dentist.

What can I do next?

Hi S..

Our son, who will be 9 next month, has gone to a wonderful pediatric dental office in Berkeley since he was your child's age. He actually enjoys going to the dentist! We go to the office at 906 Ensenada, phone ###-###-####. The dentists names are Joseph Wampler, Neil Katsura, Robert Khalil, Arnold Nakazato, Carole Miyahara, and Ameneh Khosrovani. Our son usually sees Dr. Nakazato, but all of the dentist seem to be great. We know a number of other families who also go to this practice, and they all seem to feel the same way we do.

I think they also have another office in Berkeley, but since we live in Albany, we go to Ensenada.

Good luck!
K.

Hi,

I've been really happy with Dr. Carole Miyahara, who is part of a group practice of pediatric dentistry with offices in Berkeley and Orinda. They seem to have things really well worked out for working with kids, and our 6 year old has had very good experiences. She had to have several cavities filled, which required two separate visits, and both visits were no problem at all. The staff is nice, the office is completely kid friendly, they do a good job of making the whole procedure seem like no big deal and keeping the kids well distracted during the process. I recommend them highly (we actually saw another dentist before who was suggesting general anesthetic for filling my daughter's cavities, which seemed like an unnecessary risk to me, and I went to Dr. Miyahara for a second opinion. Her opinion was that it would be no problem to fill the cavities with only a local anesthetic, and she was right).

Their offices in Berkeley are at 3010 Colby St., Suite 217, across from Alta Bates. Phone number is ###-###-####.

Good luck
S.

Ed Matsuishi in El Cerrito has a very child friendly office and treats only children. Both of my daughters (now 13 and 16) have been going there for years.

Seconding the rec for Drs Wampler, Katsura, et. al. Their offices and staff are *exceptionally* child-friendly - down to the kid-sized seats and sinks. Many of the families in our twins club are also thoroughly satisfied with the office and comment on how their kids actually look forward to their dentist appointments. Only down-side is that if you're paying out of pocket like we are instead of through insurance, their prices are quite a bit higher than the family dentists that my husband and I go to for our checkups. They have offices in South Berkeley near Alta Bates, in Orinda near the school district office, and the office the previous poster mentioned on Ensenada in North Berkeley

Steven Baldwin and Cynthia Scipioni are excellent dentists. I saw them when I was a little girl and continue to see them. I trust them fully. They have a little girl of their own now. They are married and work the office by themselves. They have been around for a long time. They are located on Telegraph across from Whole Foods. The address is 3045 Telegraph Berkeley, Ca 94705. The phone number is ###-###-####. My whole family sees them and our extended family. They are dedicated and committed.

Dr. Neil Katsura has two offices in Berkeley. He's been taking great care of my boys' teeth since the beginning. We love him!
