Child suspended from school for repeating inapproiate gestures in school cafeteria.. Teacher tells him that he has to eat lunch in office for the rest of the school year. Is this proper treatment for a 10 year old boy??
Classmate said i gonna have sex on the tablle until it break .everyone laughed. When my grandson repeated it children went to the teacher and told on hiim. I don't believe that either boy knew exactly what was meant by what they were saying i do know thatt my grandson is still trying to figure out why he is in so much trouble. Parent teacher principal conference set up for later this week . Please tell me what i should expect from the school.
Is this the ONLY reason he's having this action taken? Seems rather severe to me...unless he's been acting up in other ways, has had multiple warnings, and this is the final straw. There may be more to this story than you think. Have the conference with the teachers and principal and see what the deal is.
I remember when I got the call that my oldest at five had flipped kids off. I pointed out that he points with his middle finger and thanked her for telling my child that it has a different meaning. I told her every time I actually flips someone off I will think of her.
Some kids were splashing in the drinking fountain and he pointed to the drinking fountain and told them you can't do that.
She apologized at least a hundred time during the rest of the year.
I would suggest you appeal this.
So the kid is 10, he said he was going to have sex on the table till it broke...and you want to say that the kid didn't know what that meant?!
Are you the responsible party? (ie, are you the one who takes care of the kid regularly?) If so, then why haven't you had the talk with him?

we had a child at the school i work at try to hump and actually try to touch children boys and girls inappropriate manner. it took 4 years to get him expelled because of this (he was in 3rd grade).
Eating in the office, okay, but until the end of the year is a bit much. What he said was inappropriate, but it's not like he was cursing or making threats of violence or bodily harm. I think they're going a bit overboard.
As far as what you can expect from the school, be prepared for them to be looking down their noses at you! After all, they are school teachers and administrators who are used to being put up on pedestals!
Well, what was the offending gesture? And how many times was he asked not to do it before he was booted out of lunch? And how is his behavior otherwise? First offense? And is the school's policy very clear on the disciplinary actions for such offenses?

I think it would make more sense to have a talk with the teacher/principal/counselor and state what you just stated: that he repeated something someone else said and probably does not even know what it means. He and the other boy should have an explanation why what they said is not allowed, and he should have been given some warning before punishment. Our school has a Behavior Contract that the kids and parents have to sign and it spells out the escalation of consequences for certain actions. I don't believe eating lunch for 3 months in someone's office is in any of the consequences. First offense should be something like: being sent to the principals office for an explanation and staying after school once.
Hard to say with this info. What was the gesture? What was the consequence/warning before? What does the school's disciplinary code say?
I would guess that it's a bit heavy-handed and a knee-jerk reaction, but it would depend on what he actually did, how many times has he done it before and whether or not all other consequences have been exhausted.
What happened to the kid that said it first?

I don't think it sounds appropriate. I think making a child sit in the office is a bit odd trythfully. How is that a consequence of what happened?
I guess next week you can make sure to tell them you want him back in the lunch room.
They do need to actually ask the kids what happened and then go from there. It sounds like the jumped to conclusions.
I don't think that a teacher can make that sort of determination. That's really for the principal to decide. He didn't make a gesture (that's hand movement), he made a comment. If you think at 10, he was mindlessly repeating something and didn't know what it meant, I'd say that you are mistaken! They are not little boys, and if he doesn't know that this sort of comment is not acceptable at school, that's your fault as the parent. A kindergartener or first grader wouldn't know what they were talking about, but tweens are very well aware of sex and have very foul mouths. If I found out that my middle schooler made that kind of comment, he'd be able to tell you what every kind of soap in our house tastes like.
